VIDEO: Drag race between ZR1, 599, GT-R and GT2

Click above to view video after the jump
If we came up with a list of our top "Best Day EVER" scenarios, we're pretty sure a straight-line race between the Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 599 GTB, Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2 would be close to the top of our list. The scribes at Motor Trend were able to live that dream, but they threw us a bone by recording the supercar showdown for the world to see. Follow the jump to see the 638-hp ZR1 take on some of the best street metal from Italy, Germany, and Japan. We watched the video four times, if only to note the stark difference between the launches and finishes of four distinctly different supercars. And just for fun, write down your projected 1-4 finish and let us know how you fared in the post-jump comment section. Thanks for the tip, everyone!

Boo, as we already saw last night on Top Gear, the new Lambo is faster than the GT2 in a straight line. Where is that in this line up??

They all start. GT-R pulls ahead, then the GT2 shoots forward, then the 599 and ZR1 blow past the Porsche and the Nissan to both take the lead. The 599 and ZR1 are neck and neck, but the ZR1 is inching ahead, and eventually wins by a full car-length, with the 599 in second, Porsche in 3rd, and then the GT-R lagging behind in last. What? Just tried to make it interesting.
Summary: Pretty Much.... Just awesomness.

1st - ZR1
2nd - 599
3rd - GT2
4th - GT-R
GT-R started out in front with the best launch, but quickly was overtaken by the GT2, ZR1 and 599, the GT2 held the lead VERY quickly before the ZR1 got back in front never left the lead

Hey Torrent....that was WAY more than a full car length!!!

I'm surprised the grand-tourer Ferrari beats the ZR1 by 0.1 sec in 0-60 and is just 0.1 sec behind in the quarter mile in MT's comparo. The Ferrari is down 200 cc, 26 hp, 156 lb-ft (!), AND carries 611 lbs (!!!) more! Sure, the F1 gearbox probably helps a bit, but I don't think it can explain the discrepancy. Perhaps we can attribute the 0-60 time to traction, but the quarter mile? Can anyone explain?

Yep, looks like they do need a new mechagodzilla if Nissan wants to get back its drag cred.

The difference of HP is too immense between GT-R and the other cars. But still very impressive.
Can't wait for V-Spec! C'mon Nissan why you keeping us waiting!!

V Spec means Victory Specification
they have to win before they release it
;)

@IK,
Sense. You can not make.
tristan 12:22PM (11/03/2008)
if i were you i wouldn't talk up the GT_R its very fast but out of its league in this group.
and Nissan has already fudged the HP on all the cars that they sent out to magazines and testers. so i believe we have already got a damn good look at what the v-spec will be like.
BigMcLargeHuge 12:45PM (11/03/2008)
@ tristan,
If the Z06 lost to a group of 100K cars y'all would say "well yeah, but look how much you saved."
The C6 Z06 was never an Enzo-beater, but when it came out it was awesome performance/dollar.
Why does the Z06 keep selling? Its not junk. The GT-R beating it did not make it junk.
And the GT-R is not junk just because something slightly newer, more expensive and more powerful beat it. Same story, new chapter.

Time to crank up the boost on the GT-R =P
But yeah this is basically an all out horsepower race once past the launch...if the GT-R straight up got more horsepower it'd be able to nail the launch and keep up.
Shouldn't be too hard to make a V-Spec that puts out significantly more HP.
Frylock350 3:38PM (11/03/2008)
@Tekd,
Actually even if the GT-R had the same HP as the ZR-1 it wouldn't keep up. Its too heavy and the AWD system is very parasitic. Make no mistake about it GT-R is a track rat, not a drag queen.
chiohmann 7:52PM (11/03/2008)
Lets just wait for V-spec and redo the test.
I'm not favoring GT-R, but it would be interesting how V-spec would keep up with those supercars.
AMcA 11:29PM (11/03/2008)
I'm surprised the Ferrari did that well. It's 612 hp, yes, but it's also somewhere around two tons.
ANTONY 9:38AM (11/03/2008)
Wow... GT-R got SKUNKED! That's a real shame
