Click above to view video after the jump

If we came up with a list of our top "Best Day EVER" scenarios, we're pretty sure a straight-line race between the Corvette ZR1, Ferrari 599 GTB, Nissan GT-R and the Porsche 911 GT2 would be close to the top of our list. The scribes at Motor Trend were able to live that dream, but they threw us a bone by recording the supercar showdown for the world to see. Follow the jump to see the 638-hp ZR1 take on some of the best street metal from Italy, Germany, and Japan. We watched the video four times, if only to note the stark difference between the launches and finishes of four distinctly different supercars. And just for fun, write down your projected 1-4 finish and let us know how you fared in the post-jump comment section. Thanks for the tip, everyone!

SPOILER: For anyone who can't see it at work, the finishing order is Vette, 599, GT2, and, way back there, GTR. GTR gets of the line quickest but can't hang with the big boys once the speed starts piling on.
i think the viper ACR should have been included, IMO the zr1 and the acr would have had an extremly close race
      • 6 Years Ago
I wrote my picks down and I was way off on the GT-R. I figured the GT-R and the GT2 would be good off the line for obvious reasons but neither were a match for the horsepower of the other two after a couple seconds.
The stats figures say that at the 1/4 mark it wouldn't be GT-R in the lead. It's has the worst 1/4 time in the group, doesn't it?
who knows how long this race was, i predicted assuming that this was a 1/4, results are going to be different. what they did was basically dyno these cars against the air resistance. the one with the most power went the fastest.

at the 1/4 it very well may have been gtr>gt2>ferrari>zr1

you really see how the ferrari and vette are optimized to operate at much higher speeds than the other 2.

      Okay so I'm guessing

      Woo! I was right!

      Well, the GT-R is not a drag-racer - it's a twisties car.
But the Corvette is simply amazing, althought I'd take the Ferrari over any of these cars
        • 6 Years Ago
Look at the article on motortrend.com - the GT-R finishes last on the road course, with the commentary that it "understeers like a pig". So much for being a twisties car. Also finishes last on the top-speed run, and last overall in the comparo. I'm too really impressed by the Ferrari, it really represented well considering it's Ferrari's more relaxed, GT-style car. Imagine if they had an F430 Scuderia or an Enzo in there!
The GT-R beats the Z06 and 911 Turbo,

yet going up against the GT2 and ZR1 suddenly its 'not a twisties car'.

The GT-R has beaten the GT2 before. Different race, different driver, different results.

Saying it can't corner all of a sudden is dumb.

can't watch youtube at work, someone wanna give me a recap?
Hey Torrent....that was WAY more than a full car length!!!
        1st - ZR1
        2nd - 599
        3rd - GT2
        4th - GT-R

GT-R started out in front with the best launch, but quickly was overtaken by the GT2, ZR1 and 599, the GT2 held the lead VERY quickly before the ZR1 got back in front never left the lead
        • 6 Years Ago
They all start. GT-R pulls ahead, then the GT2 shoots forward, then the 599 and ZR1 blow past the Porsche and the Nissan to both take the lead. The 599 and ZR1 are neck and neck, but the ZR1 is inching ahead, and eventually wins by a full car-length, with the 599 in second, Porsche in 3rd, and then the GT-R lagging behind in last. What? Just tried to make it interesting.

        Summary: Pretty Much.... Just awesomness.
The way I see it is if you wanted to go fast for cheap, buy the GT-R. If you price is no issue, get whatever is the fastest, in this case the ZR1.

Not that I'll ever be able to afford any of these

"Basically its fodder for the haters. 99% of owners are reporting no issues."

Ok fanboy, maybe you should register over at a Nissan forum and see that ALOT of owners are upset because they are voiding their warranties with cars only launched once or twice. The owners even make jokes about it. Go ahead, look it up.
But you're to busy being a Fanboy to notice things like that.
I am registered. And the owners are saying 'don't abuse it'. They have no sympathy for abusers.

        Here is a typical quote:

"If we apply the rule about the amount of times launch control can be used before failing, which acording to my record keeping has been 30; they would have had to launch the car atleast 30 times... once every 10 miles..."

not a fair race but the fact remain, THE GT-R GOT MURDERED, OOOHHHH MY GOD, i hope nissan was watching, its time to unleash GT-ZILLA upon the world

Another clueless vette fanboy disgraces himself by opening his mouth before thinking. Nice job.

A tire blew at 180mph in a hard banking turn, the fact that the car is still in one piece is amazing.

Your C5 is garbage compared to a GTR.

In addition, you're a biased prick. Way to represent your fellow domestic enthusiasts.

Normal riceboy response, did it take you long to think up those hard facts of your's ?

You joystickers made this with false performance claims including how it would kill any Corvette and then make some claim that a hard turn that all 4 cars had to deal with was the cause of in just one lap the tire and the car was now a junker. ONE LAP !

Talk about a fanboy, every time that ricer breaks or gets it's ass kicked you have off the wall excuses and then say "oh wait in the future a new model will beat your ass"

Sorry this is real world and not your video gaming or DRIFTING.
The car is a POS for $80,000 plus and electronic spy software that finds any excuse to void the warranty.

The garbage is the facts, the GT-R outside of the control of datsun doctoring the end results has been all loses, lots of breakage and joystickers making a car that only did 105 MPH average speed in the ring a ding track into a comic book hero.

Every time you ricballs bad mouth the Corvette we will stomp your asses on the street or track so STFU and just play with that toy and let real men drive real sports cars so go play in a parking lot drifting, meaning a driver who cannot control a car even at 15 MPH.
you are such a idiot!! Get that chevette outta here!! I would much rather drive a Datsun then a company that made the chevette!! Can you please tell them to make the steering wheel the same size!! hahaha the left and right arms are uneven!! That interior is fugly as hell.
Another informative and well thought-out post by the classy domestic enthusiast. Bravo.

That kind of hate is probably only brought on by a loss to a GT-R. It's ok, no biggie, they can beat Z06's, so your C5 never stood a chance anyway...

Also, the GT-R wasn't the only one that lost a tire in that test. The ferrari did too. In addition, would you mind telling me what the average speed of the Z06 was on the 'ring? Must be higher than the Nissan, right, even though the time was slower overall...

Does anyone have the weight of all 4 cars?
I'm not sure on each vehicle's weight but ZR1 is lighter than the Ferarri and GT-R. The Porsche might be lighter yet, not sure.
