Audi TT RS specs leak out

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Audi TT RS undergoing testing
The crew from WCF supposedly intercepted a letter en route to German dealers from Audi HQ that gives up the details on the forthcoming Audi TT RS.
As previously rumored, power will be provided by a 2.5-liter TFSI five-cylinder, churning out 340 hp and 330 lb.-ft. of torque. Output will be delivered through a six-speed manual gearbox on its way to Audi's Quattro all-wheel-drive system, expected to have a healthy rear-wheel bias. The direct-injected mill should provide acceptable fuel economy, while returning a 0-60 time of just under 4.5 seconds.
In addition to the power upgrades, the TT RS will come equipped with 18-inch aluminum wheels, a duo of oval-shaped exhaust tips and an interior swathed in Alcantara and leather. There's no word on whether Audi will ditch the standard TT's magnetic dampers for a more track-focused suspension, and the memo didn't outline if carbon ceramic brakes would be an option.
Expect Audi's Boxster beater to debut late next year in both hard-top and convertible form.

Agreed. Not that I'm complaining, but are they using the Porsche Turbo wheels?

Nah, those are RS6 wheels.
Between this and the next M Coupe which will surely get the M3's V-8, the new Boxster with DI and PDK had better be damn good.

the wheel design looks like the Bentley Brooklands':

Nice, significantly lighter, lither, and faster than the 370z, i'm expecting what, twice as much?

You're also neglecting the fact that the interior of this Audi will be significantly nicer than the Nissan interior. It probably won't be twice as expensive as the Z but it is far and away a better car.
zamafir 2:46PM (10/30/2008)
Actually, I'm not. The TT has the most depressing interior in the Audi range after the A3, easily outclassed by the A5 et-al. my post wasn't meant as a detraction of the TT but rather something to substantiate a significantly higher base price which the TT-RS will command. FYI:
Currently the 350z is a hair under $29,000 base, so I don't think it's unreasonable to figure the 370z will be under $30,000.
The TT with 2.0T base is $35,200
The TT with 3.2 base is $42,070
Current rumors peg the TT-S at between $48,000 and $58,000 (making sense as the heavier, slightly quicker Z4M is $50,400 and Audi sees BMW as their primary competitor - well and porche - in this field).
Thus TT-RS with it's Z4M beating, RS4/M3 equaling/beating, sub 4.5 second 0-60 shouldn't have any issue being priced in the high $50,000 to low $60,000 as audi already likes to kit their cars out with more standard features and base price them higher than their BMW rivals.
Yes, every reasonable inclination is that it probably will be twice the price of the base 370z and yes, buyers will be getting what they're paying for.

in Germany
350Z basic 38.190Euro
350Z racing edition 48.590Euro
(larger wheels, adjustable suspension, exhust, lower)
TT 3.2 quattro 41.300Euro
TT-S 45.400Euro
TT-RS ? Euro
The 350Z isn´t all around the world the cheap car it is in the USA... here it is realy expansive..

I'd love an RS3 with that engine...

why not the LS2LS7? 2:20PM (10/30/2008)
TT uses a transversely mounted engine. As such it is an FWD system with a PTO and cannot have a rear bias without extraordinary measures (see SH-AWD) because the rears cannot be driven more than the fronts, since there is no mechanism for removing drive from the front wheels.

It isn't that hard to do.
All you need to do is have a gearing imbalance between the overdrive gear (front right angle gear set) and the rear under drive gear (rear ring/pinion).
In between is the haldex clutch.
Though if you do this, the drive system becomes an even more of a part-time system. It can be workable if you have a big enough radiator and are willing to accept lower drivetrain efficiency.

something unsettling about the front of this car, kinda reminds me of those "extreme piercing" aboriginals with larger than life lower lip rings.

It's unsettling because it looks like the GT-R front end...

if this is really going to happen, I'm going to trade in our 2008 S3, ok she'll hate me at first but have you guys ever heard that audi 5 cylinder hauling? Like the 1986 S1 and sport quattro, simply unbelievable. Let's see what MTM will offer for this new model too. :)

5, yes, not that impressive, my first car was a 1990 audi 100. now a BLOWN audi 5, yes, sounds much better, ie the ol' audi 200s and old Groupe B racers.
