German police mocked by Muppet-driven Audi

The British have been known to "take the piss" out of their German counterparts for several decades now, and that goes well back before World War II. Time to score one for the sceptered isle again: somebody in a right-hand-drive vehicle in Germany has been foiling German speed cameras with a Muppet. German cameras are aimed to get clear pictures of the driver in a left-hand-drive car, but not a shot of the passenger -- who is, in this case, the driver. All they can get is this googly-eyed fellow. Jim Henson must be pleased. Thanks for the tip, Abe!

Sooooo, why is that they can't see the plate on the front? Do they rely solely on someone's picture to track down the driver? Obviously not, so I don't know how this is getting by them.

Solely? No. Do they rely on it? Yup. If you read any of the original comments on jalop, which this is a repost of, you'll notice German law requires the driver's face be in focus to discern if they're actually driving or someone else has their car - the cameras are focused on this car's passenger seat as it's from Britain, negating the major qualification of having a clear photo of the driver. Being a smart ass is fun though, +1 point for you today.

I dunno if they can issue tickets across international borders, if they're another country's plates?

Sure an international ticket can be issued, especially since both countries involved are part of the EU. If I drive from Toronto to Buffalo, I routinely see Ontario tagged cars stopped on the shoulder being tended to by a New York State trooper.

Uhm... Henson is dead... James Maury "Jim" Henson (September 24, 1936 – May 16, 1990)

It's what Jeremy Clarkson did when he raced the GT-R against the bullet train in Japan! With his Bill Oddie face-mask he was able to "spot the gas attendant's beaver from a mile away"!

I'm not entirely convinced that this isn't a publicity stunt by someone, maybe even Audi.
It's fun, it's harmless, it's great blogging...
but that photo just seems to be too clear.

Too clear? They have 3+ mega pixle camera's in cell phones now-a-day's that can snap a clear picture of a car and the driver in it from the same angle this camera did with clearer results than the picture shown on this post.
It might be some kind of stunt, but that looks like a legit speed camera picture to me. (i've seen a few in my days)
Slliim 6:52PM (10/28/2008)
I understand your take on this but I would like to also point out that the A4 wagon in the picture is the "older" body style. If it were a publicity stunt, Audi would (In my opinion) publicize the new body style. Don't you think so?

@ slliim - yeah, so Audi AG doesn't make sense.
Known: Englishman. Hates speed cameras. Sense of humour.
Unknown: Jeremy Clarkson's whereabouts.

Just what the Big Brother speed cameras deserve. They're lucky they're not getting a load of 00 buckshot, or some 9mm rounds.

This pic has been photoshopped. Seee the 'Swirl' on the driverside? His face has been made unrecognizeable.
This might be a fake. It doesn't matter who drives, if your wife gets a ticket in your car, you still have to pay fo it.

In some EU countries u can claim that you were not driving your car and that the person behind the wheel was a person in close relationship to you - end of story.
I can't tell though whether this applies/applied to Germany in the time this particular picture was taken in.
In our country this stupid law has been "dismantled" only recently. (I call it stupid, whilst most of the drivers probably liked it.)

I guess Mr. Animal has squandered away all his money from his former celebrity self and is now just a broke ass muppet with nothin' to show, leaving him to turn to shoplifting and grand theft auto, too bad.
