2010 Lexus RX coming to LA Auto Show

The Lexus RX is one of the most successful luxury crossovers of the past decade, with sales doubling or even tripling that of its competition. Remarkably, the RX has achieved its considerable success without a major overhaul, but that will change when the next gen RX is unveiled this November in LA. Details on the new RX have been scarce to this point, but we can be sure that a hybrid version will continue to be available and that a plug-in version is a possibility.
The RX is also expected to grow by around five inches, just like its Highlander sibling, though Lexus will likely use the extra room to improve rear passenger leg room. We've seen spy shots showing more evolutionary styling changes, along with a few cues pulled from the LF-xh concept, with tweaks to the front and rear fascias and a curvier C-Pillar.

I usually like Lexus designs but this thing is hideous. I guess in design schools it's all about "confusion" and less "cohesion" nowadays.

If I recall my discussion with a Lexus dealership that had had a sneak preview of the new RX, the platform is *not* growing like the Highlander, so that the RX will be more distinct from both the Highlander and GX.
It's also supposed to be lower and not offer roof racks anymore.

Wow. That thing fell out of the ugly tree, hit every branch on the way down. And of course, being a Toyota, it'll be about as much fun to operate as a Maytag. Nasty.

its funny you say that because of all the large sedans ive driven, the fords and chevys wer far more boring than the toyota. Scions are far more exciting than any other economy cars in that price. Camrys are the most powerful cars in their class, out performing others while getting better gas mileage and costing less. Yeah toyota makes the suspension a little soft sometimes and everyone is being plagued by that darn electric steering now, but toyotas are anything but boring. Just dont compare a camry to something not in its class like a 3 series.

that lexus concept might be a bit over the top, but if they don't step out a bit, they will only continue to be boring (in your eyes..)
if a design has offended someone (you...) then it is not boring is it? its noteworthy enough for you to speak out against it and for others to praise it. if it were boring we wouldn't be talking much about it...

Seriously, what happened to automobile design? I'm looking at the Z and at this and wondering when it was decided to go from sleek and sexy to bulky and unwieldy. I don't like anything coming down the pipeline. Cars shouldn't look like they were chiseled out of a block of aluminum, they should look like a thing sheet draped over a frame ready to jump and move.
But that's just my opinion.
Yay! let's make a hybrid, but let's put a whole bunch of useless (probably heavy) sheet metal on this that makes it look like.... ugh, I don't even know. This just looks like crap.

crazy grille, giant wheel flats on the fenders, small side windows, huge D-pillars, and just generically ugly.
Congratulations, another overly expensive ugly CUV.
Nice Job. Bring the Toyota/Subaru coupe... much more interesting that this.

Gosh- I don't think it's bad at all. I'd never drive one, but except for the miserable rear visibility and the squinty rear lights, it looks cohesive and ok. Sort of a blend of iQ, Fusion and RX with some vague Saab 9-4-ness. Certainly vastly better than Volvo's melted looking, wannabe Hyundai, the XC60.
