GM letting workers hand out employee pricing

General Motors ended its Employee Discount for Everyone bonanza at the beginning of October, but it shouldn't be too hard to get a GM vehicle for the price employees pay thanks to a new initiative meant to goose the automaker's sales during this downturn. As it's done a few times in the past, GM is allowing each of its workers to bestow the gift of employee pricing to two additional persons of their choice. With sales painfully low, this move should come as a surprise to no one. Plus, these tactics work, to a degree, as the General's sales figures were actually a few percentage points better than its rivals during September when the Employee Discount for Everyone promotion was in full effect. With that in mind, you can still get a good deal on a GM vehicle just by asking around.

is my mind playing tricks on me, or didn't autoblog say that GM was suing dealers for giving out employee numbers for pricing before? and now they can?
interesting.

That's correct, i do remember that story.
But the point in here is this. GM maybe getting these sales now, because as i remember that lost far less in sales than other automakers on YTD basis because of VERY heavy disconting. But long term people will simply refuse to buy GMs cars unless they feel like they are getting a HUGE bargain. This may explain why Aura, which more expesive than Civic and Corolla (Aura has more options) sells in such poor numbers even thou it is in record high oil time.
The far sadder news is that GM said that Cruze will also be priced about 2.5K above a Civic and a Corolla.

Yes! use Joe the GM employee's discount ASAP...
... we are laying him off November 1st. Good news is Joe the ex-GM employee can still use his old work perk to buy one last GM car or truck
Can you live in a $10,000 2008 Silverado truck Joe? The dealers already have them in the local SE/ MI papers

GM should give out Employee Discount on parts and labour for car owners servicing their cars as well, thats should help jump the sales number!

Wonder what an '09 CTS-V will go for with employee pricing. Probably still more than I want to pay. Dammit!

This sort of chaotic pricing is a bad thing. Today it's one price, tomorrow maybe much lower, next month who knows? So prospects will just wait and wait and wait. Yet a real advertised low price might get them to buy today. But if they have to go hunt down a GM employee, they'll just wait.

But,... Um I don't want to buy any GM cars.
I want to like the Cobalt SS for its amazing performance, but I just can't get past that ugly front end... =(

That's fine, but I still can't afford one because they don't lease vehicles anymore.

"With that in mind, you can still get a good deal on a GM vehicle just by asking around."
It is not possible to get a 'good deal' on a GM vehicle.
