Toyota has decided to stir the European diesel market a little bit more and will now offering three diesel Avensis models, the marque's flagship sedan. This is the model that is sold elsewhere as the Acura TSX, albeit with more luxury equipment. All three powertrains are Euro-V compliant and they all have common-rail direct injection, with fourth-generation piezo-electric injectors which raise the pressure to 2000 bar - like the BMW 730d, actually.

First of all there's a 2.0-liter 126hp diesel which gets 5.1 l/100 km (46 mpg U.S.), which has an optional diesel particulate filter. Then there are two versions of a 2.2-liter: a 150hp version, which gets 5.5 l/100 km (43 mpg) and a D-CAT version good for 177hp. Available with a sequential automatic transmission with shift paddles behind the wheel, the D-CAT also spots a particulate filter and NOx treatment at the exhaust pipe. Rated at 5.9l/100 km (40 mpg), this is the version that could make it into the U. S. as the Acura TSX diesel.

UPDATE: scratch some of this. Sorry for the error.

This is a shocking error ABG.
The Acura TSX is a Honda Euro Accord, not a Toyota.

How anyone with a basic knowledge of the auto industry would dream up a connection between the Avensis and TSX is beyond me.
In any case, the TSX isn't equipped with more luxuries than the Euro Accord, unless you count a V6 driving the front wheels.

Please edit or remove this entry, because it is factually wrong.

"Toyota has decided to stir the European diesel market a little bit more and will now offering three diesel Avensis models, the marque's flagship sedan. This is the model that is sold elsewhere as the Acura TSX..." Maybe I am missing something, but isn't Acura owned by Honda, not Toyota?

Yeah i was thinking the same thing. Acura is owned by Honda. But please bring a diesel toyota wagon to the states. Sadly the chances of that are about the same as the chances of toyota providing the engine for the TSX :-(

I was thinking the exact same thing.

I thought Toyota didn't think diesels made sense.

Wow, even Stevie Wonder can "see" the difference between a Toyota and a Honda. The Avensis is a made-for-Europe offering manufactured in the UK (in much the same way that the Avalon is made in and for the US market). Wikipedia says that it is the basis for a Scion tC (never even heard of it--I'll take thier word for it), but it is most certainly not in any way, shape, or form related to an Acura (i.e., Euro Honda).
