Spy Shots: Audi S5 convertible caught enjoying a sunset
What we have here is our best look yet at the convertible destined to replace the Audi A4 Cabrio. It's the A5 Convertible, but spy photographers have managed to do one better and snap the S5 version at what appears to be a photoshoot. Without any camouflage, the new S5 Convertible clearly exhibits all of the S5 Coupe's exterior accoutrement like a chiseled front fascia and larger wheels, and we assume it will also carry the coupe's powerful 354-hp V8. Sporting a cloth tap in lieu of a more expensive and heavy folding hard top, the A5/S5 Convertible is expect to take over Audi's drop top duties when it arrives in the very near future, either at the LA Auto Show next month or Detroit Auto Show in January.[Source: World Car Fans]

THe A5/S5 coupe is without a doubt one of the most beautiful cars on the road today. I can't wait to see the cabrio in the flesh!

It's definitely a nice car and I can't wait to see it in person.
Can I get credit for tip please?

I saw body pieces at an Audi factory this summer. They looked great by themselves, even better all together!

This car looks elegant with a roof... but when you take it off, it just looks like a designer bathtub :0 . Not as bad as the PT Cuiser convertible, but it's almost there...

In terms of "uglyness"?

Looks like it's a soft top. Interesting and probably a good choice.

How does anyone know its a soft top?

Audi has commented in the past they prefer to use a soft top instead of a hard top, because it is lighter than a hard top top, thus keeps the center of gravity lower. Less prone to leaks or rattles over time. Less complex and saves more space too. The RS4 Cab is within a few decibels of the sedan with the top up, so noise is not an issue.
A hard top might be preferable in places with prolonged nasty weather or where security is poor.

Well it seems stange to me that none of the pictures were with the top up. If it was a soft top then why would they hide it?
BTW I own an A4 Cab and the noise level is great with the top up

The cut lines for the top cover do not suggest a hard top.
With the swooping roofline of the coupe, a hard top could only look dorky on the A5. It's likely they want to keep the profile a surprise.
