VIDEO: New Hyundai Genesis Coupe commercial from South Korea

Click above to watch video after the jump
When Hyundai publicly unveiled the Genesis Coupe at the New York Auto Show earlier this year, it did so with a barrage of stunt driving and indoor drifts that made us badly want to get behind the wheel. The marketing team over at Hyundai must have picked up on that vibe, because they've produced a nearly two-minute long commercial for the South Korean market that consists of a gun metal gray Genesis Coupe slip sliding across a baron landscape. The resulting montage of Genesis Coupe clips shows it drifting elegantly through a cloud of its own dust and makes us want the RWD coupe that much more. Good job, Hyundai Marketing Dept. The entire video was shot to look almost completely black and white, which makes the contrast of the Genesis Coupe's curves stand out in a most complementary way. We were somewhat disappointed by one graphic that states a 0-100 km/h time of 6.5 seconds, but that's in line with what we've been hearing for the V6 model (keep in a mind a 0-60 mph time would be a smidge quicker). Hit the jump to see the video for yourself, and let us know if you agree that it looks a lot like recent Mazda Zoom Zoom commercials.

I don't understand.
It looks more like a tiburon or the rear of an Altima. Looks NOTHING like the sedan.
I recently bought a Honda Accord with my girlfriend. As you know, Honda only changed the sides and the rear of the coupe and it looks fantastic. The Genesis is a nice car but this car doesn't seem to share anything major with it as far as sheetmetal and interior goes.
wouldn't it have made more sense to just call this car something else?
After all, Hyundai started making FANTASTIC cars. Why stop with just the Genesis. Call this one the Exodus or something.

I heard they were going to use that naming pattern, but the 'Hyundai Leviticus' just didn't have a ring to it.
I agree it doesn't look anything like the Genesis sedan, but IIRC the Accord sedan and coupe also do not share any common body panels either. I suppose in both cases, the similarities lie beneath the skin.

@Flashpoint,
For the record, the Accord coupe only shares its side view mirrors and door handles with the sedan. Everything else (aside from the interior) is unique to the coupe.

If you want to see good content on this car you can go to http://genesisforums.org. They seem to have the latest and greatest info on the car.

Speaking of performance, one of the vendors at http://genesisowners.com is working on fitting the Tau V8 into the Coupe.. Imagine that...

if you measure 0-60 like they do here in NA, it will be 7-something seconds..
zamafir 6:49PM (10/13/2008)
it should be between 7 and 7.5.

The video linked above indicates a 2.0 liter turbocharged engine in the text before it says the 0-100 km time of 6.5 seconds.
I have heard the V6 will be around 5.5 secs. Still nothing compared to the 370Z or G37, or Mustang GT for that matter, but the price might be better and it will probably be a nicer ride.

So which Baron's landscape did they use to film the commercial? Oh, you meant to say 'barren', right?
