Honda named official vehicle of the NHL

The official opening of the Honda Center, home to the Ducks of Anaheim
Honda and the National Hockey League have a long-standing relationship through the Honda Center, home of the Anaheim Ducks, but now they have inked a three-year deal for the automaker to be the official vehicle of the entire NHL. Don't expect to see a Blue Line Edition Accord or a VTEC Zamboni any time soon, but you will see Honda vehicles and banners at your local rink, along with tons of TV and internet advertising and sponsorship of several related games and series. However, there is supposedly no truth to the rumor that the Honda Odyssey has been named the official shuttle for hockey moms everywhere.

Optical illusion in that picture at first glance. Those people looked massively tall next to the Honda Center.

A Canadian car company would've been much better-- oh wait.

Chrysler almost (and should have) became a Canadian car company.

The World Series of Poker and MMA gets higher ratings than hockey. The NHL needs to count it's blessings that it's still relevant enough to get a company like Honda to sponsor them.

Never mind that they've experienced exponential growth since the lockout. Never mind that most NHL teams' attendance numbers are through the roof and the sport is returning to health. No, your righteous indignation is completely warranted. NOBODY watches hockey. Give me a break.

If you think hockey is doing so well compare the current state of the sport to the 70's - early 90's. It is nowhere near the attendance and ratings on TV. It can't even get a major network to broadcast their games.
That great increase in ratings you brag about is coming from the Red Wings winning the cup. Other than the big six original hockey cities, it's irrelevant in the rest of the county.

>>VTEC Zamboni
I'd pay good money to see a Zamboni powered by a Honda Engine. Shave the ice in less than 8 seconds?

Remeber, on ice it's not about power, but grip...
montoym 8:55PM (10/06/2008)
Well at least on ice, the low torque of the Honda engine wouldn't really matter much and would probably be an advantage.
Don't want those tires spinning you know?

Honda and the NHL have absolutely no "relationship" through Honda Center. What kind of BS stuff do you guys constantly make up?
Honda has a relationship with the Anaheim Mighty Ducks, who own the management company for the arena.

They are no longer called the Mighty Ducks, just, the Ducks. Although in a completely literal sense, there is a relationship between Honda and the NHL because of the Honda Centre. In a COMPLETELY literal sense. I get what you're saying.
