Chinese clone wars: "Jeepzter" Hurricane replica

Click above for high-res gallery of the Chinese Jeep Hurricane clone
We've seen before how companies in China can take a radical concept design never meant for mass production, modify it a bit and offer it for sale. The latest evidence of such activity can be seen in the Jeepzter. Ostensibly a replica of the Jeep Hurricane concept from 2005, the Chinese replica does away with the dual 5.7L HEMI V8 engines for a single 650cc unit. That lone powerplant sits up front and powers the rear wheels, not all four like the concept. Of course, it goes without saying that the ridiculous turning ratio of the Hurricane has been lost in transformation, as well.
In reality, what we have here is a normal run-of-the-mill off-road utility vehicle with a plastic body cribbed from the classic Jeep concept. We're a bit fuzzy on how this sucker is "street legal" as claimed in the Craigslist ad, so we'd definitely check with your local authorities before actually making a purchase. If you just want to have a Jeep Hurricane-looking thing sitting in your garage, though, now is your chance. Thanks for the tip, toddo!

Hey at least the Chinese do it right, when they copy...they copy, down to the cheap interior.

Yeah they do it right by loosing all of the value of the concept...twin V8's and 4 wheel steering. Oh and that interior only ever so vaguely resembles the Hurricane's.

they turned a capable off-roader into a pointless poser ripoff vehicle thats most likely a deathtrap.
How is that "doing it right"???

Twin, i was making a joke.
These Chinese are pathethic, how can you live with yourself when everything you do is copy.

It is probably classified as a side by side 4 wheeler. It might be street legal under that classification.

funny that tread would grip the terrain better if it faced the other direction with the arrows pointing the other way.

Why is there only one peddle?

I thought the same thing. There is actually 2-pedals, where the gas is on the right, but in black (not the stainless steel brake).

because it's chinese.
how that made sense- i don't know.....

What's a 'peddle'? Do you mean PEDAL?
I see one pedal, which probably controls the car in much the same way the cars at Disney World's Autopia ride works

Well, it might be junk, but at least they made one, which is more than can be said for Jeep/Chrysler who ought to get off their sorry asses and build some nice cars for a change.

For $10k, I would rather get a ragged out Jeep for $5000 and mod it.
I don't think this can be "street legal" without illegally taking a VIN plate from a wrecked Jeep???

Where did you see 10k? that'd be a lot. at 5k, it would make a decent cheap side-by-side, especially if the drive train is actually servicable
Hamud 1:48PM (10/06/2008)
This thing looks like a RC jeep, with plastic wheels and all that stuff.

Looks like a toy version of the Jeep concept.

Wait! Is this thing on sale here already? I don't remember seeing anything about it in the news recently. And why isn't Chrysler saying something? With their protectionist attitude about Jeep, you would think someone would be making some kind of noise.
Besides, just looking at this and the thought of it just being on the street gives me nightmares of some clown crashing and burning while trying to go off-road in it.
