We always scoff at dealerships that charge $250 for floormats, but there are some truly expensive options out there that most of us would need a second mortgage (good luck getting that) to afford. Car and Driver has a new Top 10 List that details the most decadent options in the auto industry, and it's a pretty fun read. We knew of a few, like the Rolls-Royce Starlight Headliner that adds 1,600 tiny lights to the ceiling of your Phantom Coupe, but we didn't know it carries a $12,100 price tag. Then there's the Aston Martin Jaeger LeCoultre AMVOX2 DBS Transponder Watch that can unlock the doors of your DBS. Just $37,900! What a steal. One option we weren't aware of is the Granite Trim package that Maybach offers. A small base fee of about $60,600 will get you a gussied up S-Class with actual rock in the doors. Click here to read the rest of the Top 10 Most Decadent Options list and be thankful that you're not wealthy enough to make these tough choices when buying a car.

That star-lit roof option is awesome. I would sleep in that thing if I had that option.

They forgot the major one in 2008. Auxiliary fuel tank. When a $100 fill up just doesn't make you feel privileged any more.

$100??? 3:37AM (10/08/2008)
$100? Honestly? I've been filling up for more than that on my car for a while now. heh once I filled up on racing fuel, that was not worth the $6.99/gallon. Or was it? Yeah, it was.

I wonder, if CD editors have been living on Mars for the last 10 years. As few people pointed out, remote windows have been around as standard or option for a few years.
Third party manufacturers such as Jablotron have been shipping bucketloads of these systems, I had one on my 1998 Mazda 626. What's more, I could disable ultrasound interior monitoring while locking the car, the car would disable ignition if inactive 5 minutes after it has been opened, the car would lock itself if nobody opened the door five minutes after it's been unlocked. I got same system on my 2007 Mazda 3.The windows are shut automatically when the car is locked.
Of course, the remote can be programmed to open garage doors too and with an add-on module, I receive a text message to my mobile if the alarm is activated. What's more, the car can call me and transmit all sounds from inside if it's stolen. Oh, I can switch off the engine and/or immobilize the car via a text message.

In other words, BMW comfort access sucks, but DC editors suck even more for picking it up.

Granite door trim? That makes as much sense as having kitchen countertops made of leather.
Pointless extravagance normally doesn't bother me. But pointless extravagance that adds unnecessary weight to an automobile? That's just... what's the word? Stupid.

Christ, $60K for granite trim? Even if I had that kinda money, I'd put that towards most of a Z06.

I think whoever can afford a Maybach with granite trim is on his 5th Z06 trying to get turn 3 just right in his back yard... I do find that very sad though :(

Decadent my ass! Without granite in my car I'd go mad. And those stars in the ceiling are what make life worth living. Frankly I'm a bit angry about the fact that I can't buy a supercar that flies and runs on diamonds for the sheer purpose of running on diamonds. Ah well, maybe next year.
