They say you get what you pay for. Unfortunately, even with the second release of the Audi A4 Driving Challenge for your iPhone or iPod Touch, the price tag is still fairly representative of the quality of the game. According to Audi, 370,000 people downloaded version 1.0, but we'd be curious to know how many of those copies were still on the devices 48 hours after the user first tried it out. Our guess would be not many. Version 2.0 is certainly much improved. Audi has added new vehicles that can be unlocked, including the A4 3.2 and the mighty R8.
The graphics are also better, compared to the original. Unfortunately, like so many other games on other platforms, graphics and good features don't necessarily equate to great gameplay. Compared to Crash Kart, the vehicles in this Audi game are hard to control, and the game simply isn't much fun because the scale speeds are so slow. Since it's free, go ahead and download the Audi A4 Driving Challenge and try it yourself. Thankfully, not all of the free apps on the iPhone and iPod Touch are of the same quality of this one. Perhaps for v3.0, Audi should hire someone with more experience in driving game design.

Audi Announces Version 2.0 of 'Audi A4 Driving Challenge'
- Audi took consumer feedback to improve version 2.0 of game
- Unlockable cars, optimized graphics and enhanced game play in new release
- Over 370,000 units of version 1.0 were downloaded in the first two weeks of release
HERNDON, Va., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Audi of America today announced the release of version 2.0 of the popular "Audi A4 Driving Challenge" iPhone and iPod Touch application. The first version has been downloaded over 370,000 times since it was released in August. Audi responded to consumer reviews and feedback for development of the second release. Upgrades include optimized graphics and enhanced game play. Further, skilled players will now be rewarded with the opportunity to unlock new models, including the A4 3.2L V6 and even the Audi R8 sports car. The application is now available free on Apple's iTunes Application store. The 2009 Audi A4 is available in dealerships nationwide.
The precision performance driving game utilizes the iPhone's accelerometer (motion sensor) to control the car through a series of progressively challenging courses. Players maneuver the course, honing reflexes, control and anticipation. The A4 Driving Challenge is the first ever iPhone application from an auto manufacturer.
"Consumer response to the first version of 'Audi A4 Driving Challenge' was phenomenal," said Scott Keogh, chief marketing officer, Audi of America. "We took feedback from players and used it to craft an even better version this time around. Early reviews of 2.0 are very strong and the application is already back in the Top 10 Free Apps List."
To support the application and the launch of the A4, Audi also created an A4 iPhone experience web site that allows users to learn more about the entirely new Audi A4. Consumers who visit truthinengineering.com/a4/iphone on their iPhone will find a unique interface and content on the A4, specialized videos, wallpapers, an exterior color customizer, a dealer locator and link to install the "Audi A4 Driving Challenge" application. Additionally, customers can visit A4.audiusa.com to view the iPhone optimized website showcasing the entirely new Audi A4.

Word on the street is that this is a great advertisement and a crappy game.

The fundamental problem is the overhead view coupled with it being zoomed way in. It means you can't look ahead at all, which is absolutely the wrong way to drive!

Yeah, I played it for about 22 seconds and immediately pushed the home button and deleted it.
Simply put...it sucks.

Version 1.0 was a steaming pile of dog poo. Version 2.0 isn't bad.

I've had this game (v2.0) on my phone for awhile now and it was never really appealing to play until today when I was bored and unlocked the 3.2 A4.
I then proceeded to delete it.

I tried to download it, and it said that it is not available to Canadian customers, is anyone else getting the same error?

I'm Canadian and didn't have any issues downloading or running the game, it does, however, suck balls...

Not a Game Player, but major Audi Fan. I'm on my second TT an 08 3.2 6Spd, S-Line. I thought the game is OK for a Free game to promote the A4. It seams someone in side Audi/VW is an Apple Fan, iPod, iPhone integration in many of their cars done right, in the TT not so much...but at least it's there. For 09 it's gone on the TT...what's up AUDI??

Yup, I was one of the 48 hour users of v1.0. There's just no way to control the car so you learn a new game and that's how many pylons can you take out? After that becomes boring, you un-install. I love Audi, but I won't even give 2.0 a try. Time is money and the time I waste downloading it will cost me.
