VIDEO: 2009 Volkswagen GTI VI on the move

Click above to watch video after the jump
The 2009 Volkwagen Golf GTI has made its official debut today at the 2008 Paris Motor Show today, but it will be a few weeks if not months before anyone, let alone us, gets time behind the wheel to sample this rapid rabbit. Fortunately we've found some video of the new GTI being driven somewhere in the world by people other than us, and it looks like they're having fun doing it. GTI-ophiles will get their choice of three- or five-door models when the car arrives, though both will be powered by the same 2.0L TFSI four-cylinder producing 210 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. A six-speed manual or DSG is offered, and new for '09 is an XDS electronic limited-slip differential. Feel free to watch it all in action after the jump, and don't worry, this video has no janky hair-metal soundtrack from the '80s. All you hear is the engine revving and road passing beneath the tires.

Where is that?! Does anyone know the specific city/road in Europe? That looks like a really great road to drive.

Looks like the Swiss Alps to me, based on the tunnel style and quality of the road surface...

I swear I've 'been' on it in a really old racing game. Especially that semi-tunnel with the pillars. Looks so familiar.

those "tunnels" are pretty common on Alpine roads; they seem to be primarily for protection from falling rocks.
I just drove the Stelvio Pass in Italy a few weeks ago, and the quality of the road surface was nowhere near what is show in the video... hence my guess of Switzerland, possibly France or Austria.
(tragically, i was driving a Fiesta 1.4L diesel rental rather than my GTI)

It reminds me of: Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed

I think it's GranTourismo 3 or 4 you're thinking off. One track has a tunnel just like that after a suspension bridge. After the tunnel, a left, then tight right with a short stone wall to the left.

It was filmed in Italy, in a region called Dolomites. Have a look:

IMHO the most beautiful part of the Alps.

Thanks for all the feedback. I played Gran Turismo 4 last night and a stage called "Swiss Alps" have identical roads, tunnels, and mountains. Check it out. Now my goal is to get there and drive it in real life.

^^^Oh, and the GTI looks and sounds great too.

Just don't put it in the engine bay. That could hurt.

Call me crazy but I'd rather put my penis in an actual chick than a chickmobile.
If I ever decide to make sweet love to a car it is surely not going to be a Rabbit.

Bob, dude, you're a weirdo. Or you're 16 years old.
Like a poster above said, move out of your parents' basement and learn how to kiss a girl. Maybe stock up on Clearasil first.
I'll keep my 2009 WRX, with its AWD, greater power & torque, MUCH better looks, and bulletproof reliability.
VW FanBoyz can have this Rabbit that looks like a minivan that was subjected to the tortures of a compression chamber. Just about the ugliest car on the planet.
I will say I like VW interiors, but other than that, the cars are just awful.

*sigh*
Damnit, I want one so bad.

+1
Reliability be damned, I am getting a red one in a couple of years.

Weird they would use the same rims as the current GTI

I am going to have to bring up every issue that plagues every 1st gen VW to stop myself from wanting to rush out and buy that thing.
That is by FAR the hottest hatch that will be available in the US.
