VIDEO: Chrysler airbag blows up refrigerator, passes spit test

Last week we showed you what happens when old Ford and GM airbags are set off in an enclosed place, and now it's time to see what kind of damage an old Chrysler airbag can inflict on a mini fridge. To keep the fridge grounded, Farmer Dave slapped a Reagan era microwave on top of it, wired up the airbag to the battery, and let her rip. The door went flying, the little refrigerator's side walls were compromised, and, well, follow the jump to see it for yourself. It wasn't as explosive as the Ford door, but we love how Farmer Dave employs the saliva test on the back plate of the airbag to see if it's still hot. Sizzling spit is acceptable behavior in YouTube land.

I'll keep that spit test in mind the next time I want to blow up and airbag in an old refrigerator. pretty nice explosion though, and he sure has a nice thumb.

Sorry Chris. I probably graduated from USF before you were born!

The good old days.
When I worked at Chrysler years ago we had a good time "disposing" of old airbags. It was a lot of fun to put one under a car driver seat and make it into an ejection seat!

I imagine these guys drink a case of beer a day by themselves before they do this?

What you didn't hear before these videos were shot was the famous quote "Hold my beer, watch this!"

that was anticlimactic...Bringing this to us was just an exercise in inconviencing electrons.

I always thought that the burns that people received from air bag deployment were of the abrasive type, but apparently there is fire there too!

Wow, that is theee same airbag that's in my prestigous 93 Shadow. Think I'll leave that busted clockspring alone.

All the automakers use what, the same 3 or so airbag makers. So blowing up a Chevey, Ford, or Dodge doesn't make a difference if they are made by the same supplier. I'd like to see the new gen airbags fired off. They say they are not as explosive. Fortunately I haven't had the chance to find out if that's true!
