Fiat creates special edition Fiat 500 Lupin III

If the song is true that "to everything, turn turn turn, there is a season, turn turn turn," then we're going to need a lot more seasons for the Fiat 500. In addition to versions by StudioTorino, Diesel and Abarth, not to mention a convertible and an F1-themed run of 12, Fiat is making a special edition 500 to celebrate the car's appearance in the movie Lupin III: Green vs Red.
The Japanese anime film itself celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Lupin III series of movies, which began in 1979 when gentleman thief Lupin III used a yellow Fiat 500. While the film is out now on DVD, the special edition Fiat 500 in yellow livery and graced with Lupin's image won't come around until the latter half of 2009, and probably only in Japan. If Fiat keeps this up, it might just challenge the Ford Mustang for the title of Most Gratuitous Special Editions Differentiated by Inconsequential Details. Thanks for the tip, catgirlshyla!

Now that is cool. Will the engine roar out the back with the pull of the lever, popping open the rear lid?

I suppose you mean the 30th anniversary... last time I checked, I wasn't even close to 40 years yet... ;)

Damn, if this was sold in the US, I might actually buy one.

Does it come pre-packed with all the bare-chested women that always seem to end up in Lupin's episodes?

Did anyone actually read the press release? There is no mention, at all, that Fiat will produce a Lupin version of the car.
The car is making an appearance in the new animated movie, and will also appear on a television show that is promoting the film, but that's it.
I don't mind there not being news-related articles on Autoblog, but this isn't the first time that a news item was posted from an original news link without checking the original news article.

It would be cool if they do come out with this version. With an on-demand supercharger? Heck yeah!

Well this is exactly what I was thinking, special version or no -- if it comes to the US I'm getting a yellow one perhaps with "LUPIN3" vanity plates.

i would get two. realy i would get two. this is awesome. Another fiat version could be from get backers with built in "NGOWSssss" system. if only toyota would make a "takumi edition" re-release of the AE86. That is a car that would sell in big numbers regardless of premium on the price.
