VIDEO: Corvette ZR1 goes autocrossing

Click above to view video after the jump
The Corvette ZR1 is the fastest, most ridiculously cool production Corvette ever produced. After taking the ZR1 for several hot laps of the Lutzring in Milford, we'd go as far as to say it's one of the fastest vehicles we've ever driven. Journalists aren't the only ones who have driven the ZR1 either, as a select few General Motors employees get to drive the 638-hp supercar as their daily driver. One GM worker by the name of Karen took the ZR1 to an autocross event in Ohio and put the supercharged LS9 Corvette through the cone gauntlet. Hit the jump to see and hear the ZR1 zip through the course. Unfortunately, the camera operator didn't zoom in on the Vette or follow it very well, but it's worth your :58 to watch if only to listen to the ZR1 come off the line. Thanks for the tip, Mark!

Wow, that must have been a handful on an autocross circuit. Like cracking a walnut with a jackhammer.

It looked pretty clean to me. I raced autox this past weekend in a supercharged C6 making about 620bhp and I can say I'm am thoroughly impressed seeing that ZR1 get that power to the ground without getting the chassis all unsettled coming out of the corners!

Porsche AG drivers can't duplicate the times. Porsche AG gripes GM must be using illegal tires. Porsche AG just sore that it can't make a car as fast as the GM Corvette.

Now tell me: Isn't that the most beautiful sound you have ever heard?
(Except for the Integra woefully going after it.)
If I had the money, I'd get one. >_

It'd be interesting to see how its autox time stacks up against a standard C6 (or C5 for that matter) I can't imagine its able to make use of even a fraction of that power in this setting.
Still better than Bach though.

I am the one who took this video and did the best I could with the limited viewing area and a chinsey picture camera with a video function but still got burnt by the OP. I also rode along with her on her last (and fastest) run of the day and that car is the balls! She is an excellent driver and as mentioned is hot... the complete packeage!

She's actually quite high up in the Corvette marketing chain. She's also a multiple time SCCA national champ. She's signed up to be at the autocross I'm going to this weekend. Hope she brings the beast along with her.
