VIDEO: Cloaked BMW X1 Concept is a hip-hop wannabe

Click the image above to view the teaser video of the BMW X1 Concept
Rocking graffiti styles we haven't seen on the street since the late 90s, BMW has put out a 40-second teaser video of a covered X1 Concept being unloaded from an enclosed trailer ahead of its debut next week at the Paris Motor Show. Our skateboarding, urban protagonist tags the letters "M," "C" and "X", using each letter to spell out some lofty buzz words about the X1's desired demographic, simultaneously stoking our curiosity and leaving us shaking our heads. Check the video after the break and stay tuned on Thursday for the official reveal, live from Paris.

WTF????
The yuppie-mobile goes "urban". Someone should let them know that looping a irrelevant, generic hip-hop soundtrack over a video of some guy doing graffiti is WAAAY past cliched.
Maybe they're trying to score some Scion: "corporation cool" points.
"Yeah, yeah we get it. We're down. We're hip...Trevor, do you know if they're serving mocha lattes at the next board meeting?"

Yep, it's pretty fascinating to see from a company that was once so obsessed with NOT "diluting" the brand.
Oh well, maybe with a few more videos featuring skateboarding "Joe Cools" we'll all be hypnotized to want each one!
You would think they would know the market they are aiming for is bright enough to see through contrived, poseur images like the above.
A little insulting...actually
BoneHeadOtto 3:43PM (9/26/2008)
did you really just say "NOT!!!"

bmw: kill the x1 and focus on a 3 series sedan that doesn't look like a potato on wheels.

A typical example of trying to be cool or "street" by people who are not... even the music sucks. They should hire me at BMW Marketing.. Graduate this year. Excited by the car though.

What? Why? I like hip hop, but what does generic music, bad graffiti, and skateboarding have to do with BMW? Can the 12 year olds who might be impressed with this weak commercial even afford this car? Anyone over the age of 13 will be disappointed with this. If you want to target the youth market, use younger people to come up with commercials, not old men. Why would you want to target the youth market anyways? BMW, never do this again, you have been warned.
