Rendered Speculation: 2010 Mazda3 smiles back

We have an idea of what the next Mazda3 will look like based on some trademark renderings that Mazda supplied the European Union Office of Harmonization for the Internal Market; basically what they amount to are patent drawings. Based on these very rough outlines, somebody named Pascal Boissé from Auto-Motive D&C has created a rendering that gives us a slightly better idea of what the new compact car will look like. The results are a bit mixed, with the fenders and greenhouse meeting our expectations, but that happy-go-lucky front end may be a bit off. Recent spy shots don't show the snout protruding out quite that far. We may see character lines along the door's bottom edge, leading up to the rear arches as the rendering clearly shows. What we know for sure is that Mazda has been getting more expressive with its styling, as the revised 6 and recent concepts prove. We'll see the Mazda3 in person at the upcoming LA Auto Show and here's hoping that it's a bit more refined than the rendering above.

The front should look more like the new 6, then it's sold. I just hope they offer a sedan speed model in 2010. If so, I'll either keep my current 3 Sedan, or trade it in.

It bugs me when manufactuers come out with a car that's perfectly styled, and when it's time for a "required" styling refresh every few years, it starts to look worse.
I'm talking about the Mazda3 in this case. When it first came out, I thought "wow". Then a few years later, they restyled the wheels with the snowflake pattern. I thought, "meh". Now with more odd restyling, I'm thinking, "gross".

I COMPLETELY agree!!!
Infiniti did the same with the G35--->G37.
The G35's design was so pure and elegant then it got all "voluptuous" (in a bad way).
It transformed from Adriana Lima to Pam Anderson!!!
I guess its hard to improve when the initial design is just sooo right.
Hell, Chevy's just now bouncing back from the sixties...
Jk ;-)
but, yeah...hopefully it's speculation.

I doubt it'll ever make it to production looking like this. Where's the airflow for the radiator gonna come from?

this image is not from Mazda. IT is a bad photoshop attempt to make the car look like the patent filing. The roof line does not even match the patent filing.

Same with the Mazda6 too.

ROFL....no wait, gimme a second to stop laughing (I'm not laughing with the the Mater3, I mean Mazda3, I'm laughing with it).
Thank you, that is all.
Good grief I hope that's not what it'll look like. What a travesty to the current 3, easily one of the better looking vehicles in it's price range (or even the one above it for that matter).

Don't go getting too upset, this is just a rendering which is clearly based on the current Mazda3, those patent drawings show the final execution to be much cleaner and more resolved.
Have faith and remember not to lend to much dredence to anything you see before the official reveal.

Based on the current Mazdaspeed 3, I might point out..... look at the rims and prominent rear spoiler. Definitely a MS3 they started on. But damn, this thing looks way way worse than the current 3. I really hope it looks more like a baby 6. Yikes. But given mazda's current design direction, I think they missed badly on the front end detail. It looks nothing like the Nagare or the Furai. The 6 looks very influenced by those concepts. I think this will too.
