Head to Maserati's website and you're greeted with a tantalizingly coy poll, asking users to guess what event will take place on October 2nd, the first day of the Paris Motor Show. The overwhelming popular opinion is that a new car will be debuted, possibly the smaller Maser that's supposed to take aim at Porsche. A test mule was spied a while back, though that car didn't have the folding hardtop the new mini-Maserati, based on a hacked-down GranTurismo, is whispered to be carrying. We'll all just have to wait, each day feeling longer than the next. What else could it be, other than a car? The idea of generating such buzz over a new website, logo, or advertising campaign (all three are choices) is ludicrous, but the rest, including a new production facility could seem plausible. Even more intriguing, it could be all of the above. We want a smaller Maserati, and we're going to hold our breath until we turn as blue as the website's banner image to get one. Thanks for the tip, Jvijil.

I know, it's a four door saloon to compete with the forthcoming Lambo model, Aston and Porsche Panamera.

I saw my first Quattroporte in the wild down in North Carolina the other day. You just don't see any here in Wisconsin. :(

      Here's hoping for a new Merak/Bora.

V6 and V8 options, longitudinal rear midship layout, under slinky bodywork, priced between the Cayman and Carrera Porsches, in Z06/GTR territory. Maybe it won't outperform the latter two, but likely be more stylish and cool than all of them.

Priced FAR under the 8C Alfa, California, F430, and other Fiat-held nameplate sports cars.

I used to drive a Merak.

Like a Maser outside and a Citroen inside. I hit 140 in it once - pretty good for 1979.

Burnt to the ground one night at a stop light on the way to the shop.

Is it a sub-$30k car average people could actually buy? That would be a surprise. Most likely it's a $150K sleek, glittery, great sounding fast car that a few trust funders and CEO's might get to drive. That is not a surprise.

They are going to reveal that half their 2007 and 2008 production is stashed away in Orange County , CA warehouses and that they are surviving by using Ferrari's ATM card. LOL.
