Hyundai readies Genesis Coupe spots for Superbowl debut

Last year, many people got their first glimpse of Hyundai's new Genesis luxury sedan as the Giants beat the stuffing out of the Patriots during Superbowl XLII. Pleased with the results of that effort, Hyundai is coming back to the big game, this time with the Genesis Coupe. Outgoing creative agency Goodby, Silverstein & Partners is handling two 30-second commercials featuring Hyundai's sporty new rear-drive two door. While the agency change has raised some eyebrows, Hyundai insists that it will continue to work with Goodby for quite some time, even as it transitions creative duties to World Marketing Group, already handling media buys for the automaker. We'll have to tune in for all four quarters to see if the jilted ad folks mailed it in, but judging from the quality of Goodby's work on the Genesis Sedan - and the target-meeting 8,000 units sold - the pigskin-centric effort will likely meet with success.

When is the version that weighs less than 3,400lbs coming?

Haha, I agree. I just looked up the weight like 30 minutes ago. It's pretty damn heavy...

Compared to the coupe version, the Genesis V6 and V8 sedan are "more important". No one expected a car as refined and complete as the Genesis Sedan to be cranked out by Hyundai. a coupe is not going to be as interesting in a market flooded with the Altima coupe, the Accord coupe, the Nissan 350z, the BMW 1 series, and all the rest of the Japanese made coupes and small sedans like the Tc.
The coupe I AM WAITING FOR is the Cadillac CTS coupe V-series. That's gonna be like a damned AFFORDABLE Gallardo.

I looked at the interior pics of the Genesis coupe. It looks NOTHING AT ALL like the sedan.
Why bother naming it the Genesis?

Do we really need a comment about weight for every car? Cars are heavy nowadays, it's not going to change anytime soon.
Hell a corvette weighs about 3,200 pounds and it uses a lot of carbon fiber and doesn't have to worry about a backseat. Is it really unreasonable for this car to weigh 200 pounds more?

@jv2k
I agree. In the here and now there aren't going to be any 2+2 coupes that weigh as much as an Elise. I don't know what people are smoking nowadays.

I'm liking this more and more. Am I turning to the dark side? I want a Camaro, but man this thing is looking better and better, 'specially in yellow.

I'm going to have to wait for the real thing. I liked it a lot originally but as I keep seeing photos, they dont seem to be as flattering.
nose seems weak, Tiburon looks much cleaner. but i like the rwd coupe aspect MUCH more.
Hoping its an XF type thing, that you have to see it to appreciate it.
Mehul 7:30PM (9/23/2008)
I'm on the other side of this. The more I look at this, the more I find it ugly
Cam 10:46AM (9/24/2008)
@ Mehul: I completely agree. There was always something that didn't quite sit right for me about this car, and the more I see it, the more I don't like it. I like the Genesis, but this just looks liks a different version of the Tiburon.
Cameron42985 7:00PM (9/23/2008)
Do they really need to call it the Genesis Coupe?
Looks like another cheesey Tiburon.

it also makes no sense to call it the genesis coupe as the average consumer will just get confused cause this looks nothing like the regular genesis which is a luxury car. couldnt think of a good name eh hyundai?

C'mon - the Pats looked like a PeeWee team until their 4th quarter rally, which the Giants handily answered.
New England got pwned.
fixitfixitstop 9:52PM (9/23/2008)
I was thinking the same thing. I'm a long-time Giants fan, but they didn't exactly blow out the Patriots.
Seoultrain 12:54AM (9/24/2008)
Okay, so the Pats didn't get creamed. But isn't it fun to think that they did?
Bondtastic 7:55PM (9/23/2008)
I know it would destroy the name (coupe), but I would love a four door version of this car.

You know what the great thing is about extreme angles...it makes what looks like a bargain basement coupe look cool, then you see the production version....*crickets*
