Click above for gallery of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS

The crew from Camaro5 were on hand to capture the first live unveiling of the Chevrolet Camaro SS at Indy Bash 2008, and although we've seen the silver-hued coupe on numerous occasions, this is the first time we've gotten a glimpse inside.

As you're undoubtedly already aware, the Camaro SS is powered by a 6.2-liter LS3 V8 putting out 422 hp and 408 lb.-ft. of torque, and in this case power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox.

The most striking element of the SS' interior is the shiny plastic door panels and dash trim that matches the two-tone black and leather seats, with contrast stitching. It's very racy, and should tie in nicely with the SS badges fore and aft.

We'll be able to see the Camaro SS up close at the Paris Motor Show next month, so stay tuned for our impressions from the floor.

Shiny plastic? Coordinated w/ seats? It looks like they simply copied the red door inserts and seats the Mustang introduced in 2005. Come on Autoblog, I thought you were better than that.

I know you guys keep ranking on the interior photo of the development mule Mustangs, but with the soft-touch dash, real aluminum and metal trim ( not silver plastic ) and the coordinated seats and doors, the Mustang interior wins the battle.

My first car was a Trans Am, and I come from a GM town, but man the Mustang interior looks so much more expensive:

The Camaro represents lipstick on the Zeta pig!

Just re-read and saw its an.....

AUTOMATIC ?!?!?!?! on the SS ?!?!?!

Are you freakin' kidding me? Now that's just backasswards stupid.

Okay, the Mustang will really win now. Who wants a two door Pontiac G8 GT w/ a cheap shiny plastic dash? Oh that's right, the G8 *does* come with a manual. WTF?

If you need four doors- get the G8. Two doors, Mustang.

Camaro is a poseur, Challenger belongs on That 70s Show.

it says "IN THIS CASE power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed automatic gearbox."

do you really think that because this one car is an auto that they all will be? by the same logic, all camaros will be silver, because IN THIS CASE it is. it will also be offered with a six speed manual

You have seriously 1/2 the posts in this thread and they all are you trying to justify the mustang in your driveway (actually, you probably don't have one... i guess this is to justify the mustang background on your computer). Don't like the camaro? don't buy one. now go find a mustang tile pipe to suck, you chugnut.

Then why not show it in manual trans if its the #1 muscle car? I have insiders in both companies- and my Camaro guy says they can't get the manual trans to work with the 6.2 right now, so it may launch Challenger style- automatic only.

I love how you guys can dish it to the Mustang spy shots, but when someone points out the faults of the Camaro, you get all pissy.

I am a GM guy, but they lost me when the cancelled the F body. If it weren't for the great success and design of the current Mustang, there would be no Camaro to discuss. F.O.

Well then your Camaro guys don't seem to know what they are talking about. I've sat in, and drove the new SS a few weeks ago, and it had the TR6060. They have issues running the L99 style motor with the 6 speed. The LS3 is only mated to the manual as well, so there is a bit of misinformation in the AB article.

Likewise, I've sat in an 09 SRT, an SS, and an 08 GT, and suffice to say, the Camaro interior flows VERY well, ESPECIALLY compared to the others. The fitment of the panels, radio, controls, IP, etc, is well above the Mustang. And while it may not be the sales winner against the Mustang, it will be the winner around a track (Mustangs have always done exceptionally well in a straight line with less power, but even given the weight advantage, the Mustang loses out heavily in nearly all other areas)

Also, is it just me or is that car begging to have a spoiler put on it and given the ZR-1s engine?
God why does it weigh 3900 lbs? A loaded auto mustang GT weighs 3500. I know the 100hp wins out but did they have to make it a fat pig? Ford needs to get a real engine in the GT and they will blow the bloated camaro out of the water.

I have a feeling the 4.6 will be upgraded in power before the 5.0 comes out in 2010. What's to stop Ford from bringing in the Shelby GT or Bullitt upgrades on the 2010 GT? With better gearing, the Ford may win without the 5.0.

does anyone have any idea what the pricing on these are gonna be next year?

Im just hoping the V6 with the RS package will come in around 25k...please please please!!!
        You will get your wish......
Yeah 25K sounds about right. I heard that the projected base price will be about 22K, so you should be able to add a few good options.

I'd pay 10K not to be in Ford.
The V6 Mustang is five grand cheaper. 25K will buy you a V8 @ Ford.

It's been a long time, but this car was well worth the wait. I can't wait to get one. (Just not in "me too" silver)
