2010 Ford Mustang: New dash revealed

The Dita Von Teese-style burlesque unveiling of the 2010 Ford Mustang continues today with another image showing the dash and steering wheel, along with brief glimpses of the new IP, seats and passenger-side door panel. Riveting, no?
We couldn't help using our elementary Photoshop skills to lighten up the artificially dark picture, and after a couple of tweaks of the virtual knobs, the new switchgear and matching stitching on the steering wheel and seats came into view.
Compared to the current 'Stang, the new dash is more steeply raked and the materials appear to be of a higher quality, but until we're able to run our hands over it all at the LA Auto Show this November, we can't be certain.
The five previous teasers are available in our gallery below, and it looks like we can expect nine more images to be "unlocked" on the2010mustang.com between now and the its official unveiling.

actually, from what i have been told by members of the engineering community is that the dash, and doors and all the dark surfaces will now be a soft touch surface. very high quality compared to the current stang. GT models currently still have a plastic top to the dash and doors, and you only get leather wrapped when you enter the GT500 realm. the 2010 model will have the high quality materials on all series.
yes, this is insider info and is actually all over the web on various mustang sites.

What were you expecting, Titanium!

Sorry, I know I was being a bit pessimistic but I just get really tired of the same kind of quality in materials that come in cars like the Mustang.
Better interiors would help American makers go a long way in beating the competition.
For Ford's sake, I hope this new Mustang's interior is a step in the right direction.

my 94 mustang had soft touch interior just about everywhere. I don't understand why they went back to hard plastic dash and door panels.

3seriesisking, I dunno where you've been hiding but there's PLENTY of plastic in the new 3-series interior. I ran out of the dealership and across the street right into the waiting arms of Audi and never looked back.
The Mustang dash looks nice - I'm excited to see what the rest looks like.

I drive a new 3 series coupe. A new Audi's interior is no doubt of higher quality but when you sit in a new 3, plastic is not all over the place like it is in say a Mustang, not even close.
psu48187 8:07PM (9/17/2008)
All of that and I'm willing to bet you haven't sat or come anywhere near the 2010 Mustang (or its interior).
And sorry the 3's interior isn't all that special (coupe or sedan).

the inside of the car looks great for an American car but it the exterior i hate . I hate retro junk i want a car that looks new and fresh not a stupid 60s knock off.

Then go buy a Prius!

Then you have about 4 million other cars to choose from.
But I guess there shouldn't be any retro styled cars available at all since you don't want one.
And obviously nobody else wants them either which is why they're selling so horribly. . .

I believe the logical solution is to not buy one....
Think....With your cerebellum... I know you can.
person935 1:55PM (9/17/2008)
Thinking with your cerebellum probably wouldn't help, unless you've got coordination issues or something...I'd try the cerebrum...

What do you expect from someone who appears to have a grammar error in his own screen name. At least I spell mine incorrectly for a reason. Perhaps he/she is actually offering an option: "You can have a hatchback, OR you can be cool."
Although I generally agree with the statement "hatchbacks ARE cool", which I'm hoping is what was intended to come across.
Razor1973 2:10PM (9/17/2008)
Guys, he's simply offering his personal opinion on retro styling, which happens to be negative. I happen to share it and that should not stop me from posting it. Isn't that what these discussions are all about? Or are we only supposed to praise every car or article we comment on?

Not Mustang-related really but I have a question.
Why do American car manufacturers place the controls for the lights on the dash? Why haven't they adopted turn-signal mounted option like everyone else.

Um. every audi/lambo has the light switch on the dash. I think my grandfathers oldsmobile is the only car I know that has it it on the turn signal
Nellydesign 12:49PM (9/17/2008)
I also believe it imay be a federal safety regulation that the switch for the lights can not be completely blocked by the steering wheel. This may be harder to achieve with a stalk mounted switch. My little suzuki POS has a stalk mount so maybe I don't know.
MikeofLA 12:49PM (9/17/2008)
BMW, VW (These look like VW switches actually) Audi, Porsche etc have them on the dash... and seriously, is that worth even commenting on? No offense, but this interior looks great and that's all you can come up with?
Clinton 12:53PM (9/17/2008)
Off the top of my head, Ford and most German makes put their light switches on the dash and the rest are on the stalk. Personally, I prefer it on the dash.
