Ferrari getting them young with CX-10 training bike

Well, what do you know... Ferrari has finally created a new two-wheeler, but it's not exactly the Ducati-esque superbike we had been hoping for. Still, it's probably the greenest Ferrari the world will ever see. Designed for little tykes of either gender aged 3-4 years, this not-quite from Maranello Ferrari-branded cycle has dual 12-inch wheels, an aluminum twin-tube chassis running straight from the headtube to the rear dropouts and, um, training wheels. Well They also made a Laptop called the Acer Ferrari. It's horrible. It's their regular model Laptop with a red skin and Ferrari branding- about 30 dollars worth. And they'll charge 2K for it. Ripoff.
It's as dumb as the Bentley Laptop- except it looked like a Apple Clamshell laptop, The Volkswagen CC's seats and a Gucci Handbag all in one.

That screams "Kidnap me. If my dad spent $1000 for a tricycle for me, just think what he'd pay to get me back!"

That's what I was thinking, but it's ok because this thing looks like a cheap knock off you'd get at Walmart.
Kumail891 6:51PM (9/16/2008)

Someone should tell Stephen Eriksson about this. This is one Ferrari he won't be able to split in half so easily.

$480 for a bike that is no more useful than the $50 Huffy's at Wal-Mart. What 3 year old can use lever brakes? This is a bike to satisfy the needs of the parent, not the child. A kid would rather see Diego or Disney Princesses on a bike, not a Ferrari logo.

Bicycles bought at toy stores and department stores are of dubious quality, and are generally not in their manufacturers official product line up.
Bicycles are transportation, not toys, and as such should be purchased from your local bike shop. You wouldn't buy a car from walmart, why would you by any other form of transportation from there either.

I think at this age (3-8 years old), you can get away with department store bikes. Once things start getting complex (lever brakes, multiple gears, etc) or to the point that the rider is putting decent mileage on the bikes, I 100% agree to steer clear of department store bikes. Local bike shops will help you find a bike that fits your needs and your body.
It is funny that this Ferrari bike is more expensive than my first real mt bike (specialized rockhopper). I still occasionally ride it at my parents' house when I don't feel like dragging my Scalpel or Crosscheck along.

When I saw "5 large" put up here for the price, my first instinct was to figure it cost $5,000. Granted, $500 is way too much to spend for anything with training wheels on it, but given the ridiculous price of pretty much anything with a Ferrari logo on it...

That is absurd.
You can get a serious piece of real bike for $500. The one I just bought retails for $675 and it is stupid fast. But then again, it's a Jamis, not a Ferrari, I guess...
