eBay Find of the Day: The Jag that Bond wouldn't drive

Here's your chance to own a piece of history. Sorta. This unique car was created for an unnamed Bond movie in the late 1970's but was ultimately rejected before filming. It's based on a modified 1972 Jaguar XKE, outfitted with custom bodywork and a Cobra 289-cubic-inch V8. Part of the...um, unique bodywork includes a trunk lid that can be swapped out for an alternate, apparently crafted so that Bond could escape a chasing vehicle without being noticed. Hard to understand why they didn't use this one. Who knows, maybe it could have replaced the Aston DBS in the upcoming Quantum of Solace. But since it didn't, bidding starts at $13,000.

The 289 would cut down on leaks, but destroys the value. Being almost in a movie is pretty far removed from actually being in one. Even one photo of the actor playing Bond sitting on or in the vehicle would help immensely. As is sits, it's a curiosity, not a collectible.

Well, a 289 is a nice engine, but it appears to be saddled with a '70s Ford automatic transmission as well. THAT is not a great combo, and it's made worse by the poor taste in which the body mods were done.
It would probably be cheaper to keep running than a straight-6 XKE, but it would sound like a Mustang looks like something drawn by a 6th-grader.

I can't imagine James Bond driving an automatic.

In 'Tomorrow Never Dies' Bond drove a BMW 7-series with an automatic.

I would love to see Bond driving a classic car instead of a brand spanking new car that screams PRODUCT PLACEMENT!

And Ford Mondeo and in the new one the girl drives a Ford Ka, and the only reason he's driving a DBS is coz Ford no longer makes a car that cool after selling AM, and Sony was probably the worst offender in the movie, they might as well advertise themselves as "Official Sponsor of MI6"

I think it's just the colors... but I think it's ugly.
