VIDEO: Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION

Click above for photo gallery. Follow the jump for video.
If you find yourself in Paris at the auto show next month, you'll see the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION on the floor. (It's so fascinating, it requires all caps, you see.) Chances are, the video embedded after the jump will be playing on a variety of screens behind it and around the Mercedes stand in general. It's your typical car show stuff: light electronica over moving pictures in which the car itself never moves. Still, the panning camera gives you a better view of some of the lines likely to be found on the next E-Class family. Just dim the lights a little and imagine the car surrounded by watchful Germans who are, in turn, surrounded by a number of people speaking French. See? We just saved you airfare to Paris. Thanks for the tip, Guy.

I've never liked the E classes headlamps. I perfer the ones on the new C class and the S.
This E class looks HAWT.

actually the creases in front and behind remind me of the new acuras...
also, usually when i comment on the writing, it's to bitch and moan about typos or whatnot, but nunez i did thoroughly enjoy your post today. dry wit ftw.

I feel like if it were wearing an Acura badge people would be endlessly lamenting its ugliness. But because it's a Mercedes it couldn't get more praise.

I'll have to agree with you there. You have to admit that Acura certainly deserves the criticism from their most recent styling cues but anyone who sees good styling in this vehicle is probably one of the one thousand people who bought an R-Class.
Mercedes can make good looking cars, I happen to think the new C-Class is a good looking ride, but why they keep trying out these kind of vehicles is beyond me..

It looks like some morphed Lexus GS in the front and a stretched Mazda 6 in the back.
It's definitely not fascinating, but it is hideous.

If they removed the badges and showed me separate pics of the front and back of the car and asked me to identify the car, those are the cars I would answer

The front and back belong on two different cars. Not workin here.

Spot the difference - look at gallery pictures 3 and 6, and then look at this.

There are design cues taken directly from Euro Mazda6 wagon at the back, especially lamps.

Thank you. At least I'm not the only one that thought that.

No, it is ugly regardless of the badge. It is as hideous as the recent Acuras.

Um...no.
I see the Lexus, but why does it have a tri-star emblem on it?

Front is beautiful, love the sharp angle. Now, if only the Mercedes propeller badge weren't so frickin gigantic. It looks ridiculous on current MBs and looks ridiculous on the concept.
The back of the car is lamentable, primarily for the center vertical point and the chromed taillights. As MachinaDC5 mentioned, it doesn't work on the Acura's, just because it says MB doesn't make it look okay.

It's not hideous, but it's not groundbreaking in any way. I think "Fascination" is a strong name for such a tame concept.
And sorry Machina, it's not nearly ugly enough to be tagged an Acura.

Looks cheap.
Lacks substance and content.
Without that star in the grill it could be a Pontiac Vibe type car.

I don't give a damn what badge it has on it, it looks fantastic.

I must be in the minority - I like it a lot. I think it's stylish without being overdone. The new headlamp design is a nice direction for Mercedes, the roofline is graceful and the rear end looks muscular. For me it works!

Very well said.
Not groundbreaking or hyper-stylish, but it works, and as wagons go, a pretty decent and slick looking one.
How many more shapes for headlights and tail lights can there be, before things start looking familiar... The untapped designs, finite by purpose and general layout, get scarcer.
I wish they had showed it with it's own lighting lit.
