Click above for photo gallery. Follow the jump for video.

If you find yourself in Paris at the auto show next month, you'll see the Mercedes-Benz ConceptFASCINATION on the floor. (It's so fascinating, it requires all caps, you see.) Chances are, the video embedded after the jump will be playing on a variety of screens behind it and around the Mercedes stand in general. It's your typical car show stuff: light electronica over moving pictures in which the car itself never moves. Still, the panning camera gives you a better view of some of the lines likely to be found on the next E-Class family. Just dim the lights a little and imagine the car surrounded by watchful Germans who are, in turn, surrounded by a number of people speaking French. See? We just saved you airfare to Paris. Thanks for the tip, Guy.

It's a good looking car. Looks a bit like the Mazda 6 which is a good looking car, but the word that describes it best for me is "eh."

      Looks cheap.
      Lacks substance and content.
Without that star in the grill it could be a Pontiac Vibe type car.

Spot the difference - look at gallery pictures 3 and 6, and then look at this.

There are design cues taken directly from Euro Mazda6 wagon at the back, especially lamps.

Thank you. At least I'm not the only one that thought that.

      Hi Team
Did anyone else notice there are no B and C pillars, and that the rear door handles are in the centre, suggesting the rear doors open suicide style like on the Mazda RX8?

      Looks like a Mercedes Aztek!

I must be in the minority - I like it a lot. I think it's stylish without being overdone. The new headlamp design is a nice direction for Mercedes, the roofline is graceful and the rear end looks muscular. For me it works!

        Very well said.

Not groundbreaking or hyper-stylish, but it works, and as wagons go, a pretty decent and slick looking one.

How many more shapes for headlights and tail lights can there be, before things start looking familiar... The untapped designs, finite by purpose and general layout, get scarcer.

I wish they had showed it with it's own lighting lit.

It's not hideous, but it's not groundbreaking in any way. I think "Fascination" is a strong name for such a tame concept.

And sorry Machina, it's not nearly ugly enough to be tagged an Acura.
It looks like some morphed Lexus GS in the front and a stretched Mazda 6 in the back.

It's definitely not fascinating, but it is hideous.

If they removed the badges and showed me separate pics of the front and back of the car and asked me to identify the car, those are the cars I would answer
        • 6 Years Ago
The front and back belong on two different cars. Not workin here.

Front is beautiful, love the sharp angle. Now, if only the Mercedes propeller badge weren't so frickin gigantic. It looks ridiculous on current MBs and looks ridiculous on the concept.

The back of the car is lamentable, primarily for the center vertical point and the chromed taillights. As MachinaDC5 mentioned, it doesn't work on the Acura's, just because it says MB doesn't make it look okay.

Mercedes clearly has no idea what to do design wise. There new idea seems to be to put a car in some sort of device that takes the clay model and squeezes it out like a...yeah, you guessed it. Then they overwork the grill and woala! New mercedes. Stop stretching the cars, it looks dumb! And the SUVs don't look any better, we yanks really did invent that one. We're the only ones who can make a decent looking one! The koreans can't, the japanese can't, the germans can't...

Love them or hate them, at least BMW has a definite design direction. Its cutting edge and fresh by comparison. Poor mercedes, they have really fallen. The quality is down, they embarassed themeselves with that whole chrysler thing.

You must be a BMW owner. Mercedes doesn't excite me, but lately BMW is in the same design league as Acura... meaningless angles and folds, disrupted style lines... no flow, just tension everywhere. Oh well, to each his own.

I actually like it, it kind of has an early seventies, avant garde Citroen look too it. I dunno, call me crazy. At least it's a feasible, design that could actually be put into production without major changes – unlike the Chevy Volt concept for example.
