Over in Paris, we're getting ready for the Renault Ondelios, the Nissan Nuvu and the MINI Crossover Concept. And in China, officials think that destroying 14,277 cycles is the best way to stop bike thieves. Serioiusly.

They're not bike thieves Autoblog...it's muggers and robbers on motorcycles. Who basically ride onto sidewalks, or next to bicyclists, then grab women's purses or kids' bookbags, or men's briefcases then speed off-often with the owner of the purse/bookbag/briefcase being dragged after the motorcycles until their bag straps break.
And it happens so often that it happened to my aunt TWICE. Which is why most people in China actually wanted the motorcycles gone. Think about it-14,000 motorcycles for a city of 7-8 million people means that the vast majority of people just wanted the criminals to stop dragging people after motorcycles, for motorcycles to stop screwing up traffic and riding on sidewalks, and for the pollution and noise to lessen. To paint it as if this is the evil plan of totalitarian dictators is ridiculous, when it's in reality a last resort by the police to try and contain a horrifying crime wave where they almost never catch the criminals because they've speed off into a wall of traffic.
