Spy Shots: Ferrari Enzo successor "FX70" spotted
We've been patiently waiting for a successor to the Ferrari Enzo for some time now, and here's evidence that development of the next supercar from Maranello is underway. Codenamed FX70, the mule is housed in the shell of an F430 Scuderia, though there are a number of clues that what you're looking at is something very special. Take for instance the wheels, which are grossly oversized for the Scuderia. The track is also much wider and out back there's a large center-mounted exhaust. Next Autos reports that Ferrari is working on two separate engine options for the FX70 including a 700-hp twin-turbo V8 and a twin-turbo V12 that could reach 800 hp. Rumors suggest that Ferrari may go with the TT V8 in deference to the climate concerns of our time, though we hardly expect Ferrari to mix in too much green with that Rosso Corsa Red.[Source: Next Autos]

If they can make it this compact, congrats, Ferrari!

lets hope its not ugly like the enzo and that it actually comes with 3 pedals or they can have it back.

Now, that's a car I would not mind having parked in my fantasy driveway. I don't care what the Enzo's numbers were, it's a FUGLY car.

I'd imagine the present one can probably lap the 'Ring faster than those three. The reason no one cares is that the Enzo costs an astronomical sum of money. The three cars you mentioned are competitively priced and are a (relative) bargain for their performance numbers.

"700-hp twin-turbo V8 and a twin-turbo V12 that could reach 800 hp" probably with enzo beating handling. It will kill most stuff!
why not the LS2LS7? 1:15PM (9/04/2008)
What's the point in taking pictures of a mule? The only parts that it'll keep we can't even see.
Clicking the link I was expecting to see a fug car like the Enzo, seeing the F430 came as a relief, which is weird, because I don't really consider the F430 a good looking Ferrari either, especially from the front.

Only 700hp! Yeah, they definitely need the V12. 700hp is pathetic.

Flagship Ferraris need to be V12s, bottom line. It is fine to have versions of V8s and V12s both NA and boosted, but even a twin turbo V8 just seems wrong in a flagship. The pics in their article are next to useless being strictly a drivetrain mule, and what the hell is the problem with no video, do their cameras not do that or are they just not prepared?

The F40 was a twin-turbo V8 and that was the flagship not too long ago.

why not the LS2LS7? 4:17PM (9/04/2008)
The flagship Ferrari F40 was a V8 turbo when F1 used V8 turbos.
The flagship Ferrari F50 was a V12 when F1 used V12s.
The flagship Enzo Ferrari was a V12 when F1 still used V12s.
Now F1 uses V8s. I can't see why Ferrari's flaghship engine should be anything but a V8.
Metar 4:39PM (9/04/2008)
The Enzo Ferrari came out at a time when everyone was using V10s, and the F40 when V6 Turbos were the standart - so that reasoning doesn't go, LS7.

metar,
i only know like 2 productions cars to use a v10, the viper and carrera gt. and as far as i know thats not everyone
i have to agree with ls7 on this one, a twin turbo v8 is fine

@Metar:
'why not the LS2LS7' is not misinformed. Ferrari supercars have always showcased Ferrari's F1 technology. I can't qoute anybody at Ferrari, but think of it as an unofficial company line.

ˆI think he meant F1 cars.

F1 tech or not, I'm fine with a twin-turbo V-8. The F40 was an iconic car and is still probably one of the most recognizable Ferrari's of all time. It was also the last Ferrari supercar built during Enzo's lifetime.
With the current trend towards turbocharged vehicles, what better way to power a Ferrari Supercar than a return to the twin-turbo V-8?
Aiming for 700hp shouldn't be terribly tough with about 20yrs of additional technology to build on. The F40 made 478hp with 2.9L. 700hp with a 3.0L sounds good to me.

If the final version looked more like the MC12 or the P4/5 I'd be quite pleased.

Company founders, and people in general, do not have a very good track record of predicting future technological advancements.
