New shots of Corvette Centennial Concept surface

This shot of the Corvette Centennial Concept comes courtesy of our friends over at Jalopnik who have a few more in their own gallery. For those of you living under a rock, the Corvette Centennial Concept is both a tribute to General Motors' 100-year history and a budding young actor on the Hollywood stage with a bit part in Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen. It is not, we repeat not, a production car, a concept intended to hint at the future design direction of the Corvette or any such thing, at least as far as we know. Being a flight of fancy concept, however, doesn't take away from its inherent coolness. The view from the rear is particularly mind blowing as you can see the split rear window, incredibly sculpted rear fenders and nuevo Sting Ray badge. We're not sure when the actual car will be revealed, but GM is celebrating its 100-year anniversary this month. Then again, the official debut might also coincide with the release of the Transformers sequel in 2009. We'll have to wait and see.

please tell me that i am not the only one thinking that this thing is HIDEOUS! just look at it, the current vette is amazing and there isn't much they can do to improve it, and if they could, this isn't the answer.

You're not. I love Vettes from C1-C6..well not C4's but still this car is just fugly. Why would somebody draw something like this is beyond me..I'm crossing my fingers that this stays a concept and the C7 looks nothing like this.

Looks good, and, more importantly, still looks like a Corvette.
They need to bring back the flip-up headlights for the base model, hold on to the weight-saving normal setup for the Z06/ZR1.

No flip up headlights!!! I love the fact that mine has fixed units.
GM got rid of them for two reasons, both performance related.
1) At night you have two air-brakes on the front of the car.
2) Weight. Fixed lights weigh less.

I also preferred the pop up ones.
I am also HARDCORE NSX lover, and hated the facelifted version w/ fixed headlights.

From the back it makes a pretty good Batmobile. Of course from every other angle it makes a squishy and overdesigned lump-like shell of what could be a good looking car if this were 1950.
I wouldn't mind seeing the next Corvette or handful of Chevy cars borrowing just a couple hints from it in the future, though.

Oh. My. God... I LOVE IT. That is one of the BEST concepts I have EVER seen.

I actually like this one a lot better than the real Corvette.

To NOT put this into production, would be a travesty...

I doubt this will be produced. Remember how the old split window was discontinued because of "safety concerns"?

That thing sucks a whole lot. If they want a good concept they just need to knock the cobwebs off the Corvette Indy or CERV III. Those cars were 20 years ahead of their time and would be just fine right now.

Both the CERVIII and the Indy may have been ahead of their time, but a mid-engine Corvette is almost as wrong as one with 4 or 6 cylinders or front wheel drive. It's just not a real Corvette without a front engine, rear drive layout and a V8, regardless of the advantages other layouts and engine configurations offer.

Huh, GM can still flub a good thing. The Camaro is so very right, and I find the new Malibu really handsome... but what is this?
Its a little silly, honestly.

The Camaro is about a right as Karl Marx

+1. The first pics of it in the paint booth it looked stunning. But the headlights, the grille, the exhaust and something about the greenhouse is just OFF.
