GM releases first official photo of 2010 Chevy Camaro SS

Regardless of the fact that over a dozen official looking images of the 2010 Chevy Camaro SS showed up on the web early last week, this single high-res image of the modern muscle car is notable for the fact that it is the first overall shot that GM has officially released. It showed up on the automaker's media site yesterday evening all by its lonesome with no accompanying details, but what else is there to know besides the fact it's packing a 6.2L LS3 V8 producing 422 hp and 408 lb-ft of torque? And for those who were wondering before, the nostril vent does appear to be part of the production package. Perhaps this picture's sudden appearance portends more information to come. We'll keep our ears and eyes open just in case.

This car is as close to a grand slam as one can come. I simply love the way it looks.

It really is, +1

As much as this oversize thing weighs, it'll need every pony you can buy (and feed) to get anywhere. It's too big and too late, even later than the Challenger, which is also way too big by half a ton. Detroit's a decade behind, as usual.

Detroit is behind who? Detroit itself?
Both the Camaro and Challenger are going after the Mustang, which is also from a company based in... wait for it... Detroit.

Of the three current Muscle cars the Camaro design is my least favorite. It just never looks right to me. Maybe in person it will grow on me. I just think the Mustang and Challenger looks better. You look at them and if you know anything about cars realize what they car but not so much with the Camaro other then the fact it was in Transformers and that's why people know what it is.

I can not wait until Top Gear get their hand on All 3, (Mustang, Challenger, and Camaro) what a show that will be.

Funny you should say that. I find the Camaro to be truly amazing. To me it looks much better and fresher than anything else in its segment.
Heck, to me it's the most design on the entire market at the moment.

For the moment I rank them Mustang, Camaro and then the other one. The Camaro can jump in front if the new Mustang doesn't do it for me.
The Mustang and Camaro are new modern takes on an older design. The other one is an old design rebuilt. Bleh!

It's bold, and almost sensual yet muscular without looking at all cheesy. Just about perfect. I reserve judgment on the interior until I see it in person though.

... so it's exactly the same as the one they've just released.
SS better not mean supersillious.

Looks better then the Challenger and current gen Stang'. The lines of the car reminds you of the muscle car classic, but yet it has sharp lines to remind you its a 2009 modern muscle fuel efficient car.
Glad to see the full return (We had the new Stang' for a number of years now) of the American muscle cars.

Do we get a pulsating red light in that hood slot?
And I've said it before, but I'll say it again: lose the ridiculous oversized gold bow tie, Chevy!

A true Chevy guy would never say that. If you can't appreciate the bowtie, you shouldn't have this car.

Only true Chevy guys can drive a Camaro?
Based on who I've seen driving Mustangs (many non-enthusiasts), I'd say Chevy doesn't want that ;)

I love it. What happened to the angel eye rings around the headlamp?

The angel eyes are part of the optional RS package.

This is a photo of a plain SS.
The previous photos have been of V6 models with the RS package.
The RS package includes the Halo HID lights.
You will be able to purchase an SS with the RS package including the HID lights.
Steve_S 10:17AM (9/03/2008)
The Halos are available as part of the RS package. This is a stock SS.
March can't get here soon enough. Can't wait to test drive one.
PiCASSO 11:50AM (9/03/2008)
They really should advertise (provide initial pictures) with the high-optioned versions, rather than stock. Those halo HID lights make the car look SO much better. I'm suprised that they didn't make the HID as standard on the SS level.
