SEMA Preview: RENNtech's Pikes Peak-inspired hybrid GLK

Of all the trucks that have proliferated into the Mercedes-Benz line-up, the GLK isn't exactly the most aggressive. But according to the latest reports, Mercedes is lining up an array of aftermarket tuners at the SEMA show to infuse what appears to be more than a little testosterone into the compact sport-ute.
First up to bat is RENNtech, the Florida-based company responsible, among other things, for the bringing the McLaren SLR 722 to America and actually getting it to produce 722 horsepower. RENNtech has taken inspiration from the Pikes Peak challenge – one of the most iconic and power-craven hill-climb events in the world – to create this hardcore GLK. Little is known in the way of details, but the vehicle is said to feature RENNtech's first performance hybrid drivetrain.
Brabus, Blvd Customs and Legendary Motorcars are also said to be preparing modified GLKs for SEMA, although Mercedes has not yet confirmed its participation in the show. While we wait for that, check out the images in the gallery below.

In its long history, I don't remember MB designing so-so cars. At the worst they were not the best, but very good looking.
I am not sure they continue the trend. C-class still didn't grow on me. Now GLK, which I don't find appealing. I hope MB will not lose its touch.

agree, their cars in the past 5 years seem either overly fussy or completely blah. They need a new design direction

I concur with that point. Some of their new designs look like sea shells or snails and just too curved towards the rear. I still love the roadsters but the rest of the line up just doesn't aesthetically apeal to me in the least bit.

I think the R-Class is perhaps the ugliest thing currently on the road. The GLK will be right up there too - a definite swing-and-a-miss.

Look at that side view!
Honest to God, this is what the new Forester should have been. What a compliment that MB took the old Forester to the next design level.

the forrester looks much better than the glk. the glk is fussy and awkward.

I really like the look of raw power that this thing has - gorgeous. It doesn't look riced up or anything...

That side view looks a lot like the Kia Soul.

Real bad chops. They didn't create anything but some photoshop files.

It's "concept art". Finished car is coming in October (hint: this is Early concept art).

I would say that this is a very conservative rendering.

I wonder how many engines RENNtech will blow up before they get this one running right?
