One piece at a time: 2010 Ford Mustang hood found

Ford gave us a hint what changes we would be seeing on the 2010 Mustang by releasing images of its new edgy pony emblem yesterday, but a three-inch badge leaves a lot of room for speculation. We want to see more of the real deal. A member of MustangForums.com might have just the thing with what appears to be a photo of the 2010 Mustang hood. At first we had doubts that such an aggressive design would make it to production, but after taking a look at the spy photos, it looks like at least one of the test mules has a cowl hood lurking beneath all that camouflage. We'll be on the look out for more photos of the 2010 Mustang, and hopefully we'll have the whole car pieced together by the time the LA Auto Show rolls around!

I'm guessing its not any smaller, eh? The biggest thing I'd like to see changed in the 'Stang would be a significantly shorter hood and front end. The entire car is just too big, at least for my tastes.

Not big compared to Challenger, Charger, and Camaro. It's the lightest of them all.
The hood looks pretty cool.

Shorter hood? It's not a FWD Honda. It's a RWD Mustang.
The car really isn't that big. In fact, it's within a few inches of what it was 40 years ago. Honda can't say the same about Civic or Accord.

you clearly are not the target mustang customer, or let alone just a mustang buff in general... as a mustang enthusiast/owner I would be extremely pissed if they made a smaller hood. why in the world would anyone EVER suggest such a silly thing?
long hood = big engine = tougher stance = sexy

If it looks anything near as good as one of the concepts I've seen, I'll go sans 2009 Challenger and opt for the +1 GT, whatever they end up calling that.

Hey, long front end + short everything else = win.

So far so good.

Maybe with a hood bulge that big, they can lower the general hood height, and frontal area.
Maybe the fenders and grille can be a little lower, and the car can have a better profile than a highway sign, or a freight train.

cowl hood eh? might leave room for a Kenne Bell blower without having to swap hoods. But there isn't that much more room towards the middle to the front of the hood.

At least it's not a fake hood scoup, like they used in the last couple years.

The hood looks nice. Now if they can just do something about those rear tailights they might have a winner!

Well at least they didn't FULLY copy the Camaro's hood.

oh yeah, because the hood clearly isnt just a evolution of the current hood and is obviously copped off the camaro.
these kinds of comments just make me laugh.

I don't think too many Autobloggers got the reference. Glad I wasn't the only one!

I love that song

what i think he meant by smaller is the whole car being smaller...so yes i would love to see this a little smaller...on the verge of 4,000 lbs (Shelby) is way too heavy ...as an owner of a 93 GT i love the size of the fox bodies and with the Camaro and Challenger both pretty hefty ..the mustang would easily with the weight loss ...keep it down around 3200 and MPG goes up ..as well as performance

I agree on the Shelby. But the biggest reason for that weight gain is the piece of iron under the hood. I was always curious as how much more the GT500 would be with an aluminum engine. If it was, say, $3k more, then the performance gains would definitely be worth it. It's already a quick car and can handle (for what it is) but that engine is the biggest killer. I think if the Shelby were to weigh 3600lbs, it definitely would be a wicked ride.
As for the lesser models, I doubt we will see a 3200lb Stang. Shedding around 300lbs isn't an easy task and I doubt Ford could do it while keeping the Mustang as cheap as it is.
Also, remember, the 350Z weighs almost 3400lbs in certain trims (only 100lbs lighter than the Mustang GT).
