Make it work! Project Runway challenge relies on Saturn parts

Project Runway is one of those reality shows that you both can watch, if you know what we mean. Though most men man not admit it, watching Heidi Klum and a bunch of models walk down a runway makes up for the obnoxious antics of the designers. This week's episode incorporated one of the show's long-time sponsors, Saturn, which heretofore has been relegated to supplying the winner with that year's Saturn du jour as a grand prize. Episode 7, however, brought Saturn onto the runway in a challenge that required the contestants to create fashions using parts from the new VUE. Make it work, indeed. Though we haven't watched the episode yet (oh yes, we DVR it), the best part appears to be when the designers begin dismantling a pair of VUEs for materials. Mental note: be wary of used late-model VUEs for sale in and around New York City. It appears the designers were most attracted to any cloth they could find in the vehicles, with seat belts being a hot item. We're not going to spoil for you who won the challenge, except to say that the design was not our top choice. You can check them all out in the gallery below, as well as some stills from the episode.

Lol. My girlfriend and her sister love this show... I'm surprised she didn't call me when it came on and they were doing car stuff.
(BTW, when did this come on?)

My girlfriend watches this show religiously...so of course, I have to watch it religiously as well. Some lady took a headlight out and wanted to use the lens, but couldn't figure out how to separate it from the housing. She dresses like a biker and acts like she's real mechanical, so I was a bit disappointed when she didn't know that the best way to separate a headlight lens from its housing is to put it in the oven. Stupid designers.

I'm not an avid watcher, but I'll admit to having seen a few episodes with a lady friend of mine. The Saturn challenge is cool (for those that don't know, they always give away a Saturn to the winner, in addition to the prize money), but I think two of the best so far were the Barbie doll challenge and the photography challenge where they had to go out into NY and take a picture of something inspirational and interpret that in a design. That was fresh and original, but the chick that won, shouldn't have. The other girl got robbed. I have that episode on DVR. A lot of my artsy or creative friends really liked that episode too. It was fierce. haha

Project Runway Australia did it first, but with a Fiat 500.
The results were much more intriguing.

I was expecting a bikini made from pistons and plug wires.
These designers lack vision.

You oversold the episode. Although it would have been hilarious to watch a bunch of fashion designers "dismantling a pair of VUEs for materials", they simply grabbed loose parts that were piled into the cargo area. Oh well.
