V Eight developing modern Jensen Interceptor SX supercar

We've already told you about a company called V Eight that has rebirthed the Jensen Interceptor S with an LS2 and modern mechanicals for £75,000, and already, 60% of the allotment of 50 has been sold. That kind of success has got V Eight looking at a successor for the S, and they might have found it in the Jenson Interceptor SX.
The SX would be rebodied over a original donor car, just like the Interceptor S. And while it would still look like a Jenson, as you can see from the official rendering above, the design would be much more modern. The Interceptor SX would get a luxurious interior on the inside and use an LS7 V8 making 620 horsepower for propulsion. To be offered at a price of £145,000, the SX already has deposits from buyers of the Jenson S. As far as we're concerned, if you're going to revive the empire, this is the way to do it.

Looks like the AMC Spirit AMX Turbo

Minus the hideous rear spoiler.

Indeed that Photochop started with a 2010 Camaro rear 3/4.

Why is it that this looks even worse than the original?
Why is it that this needs to be a retro copy of the original?
Have designers all lost what creativity they have left? How about something new?
Cues from the past are one thing. Merely re-skinning an old design is getting... OLD.
Jensen isn't exactly a fashion horse brand, anyway. They used to build top shelf sporting GTs. And that design was current at that time. It isn't as if it is a Camaro or Challenger, where it has mass-market appeal based on looks and a finite character.
Jensen could be brought back to build premium sporting GT cars again, with another new design. Aston Martin has. It still looks like Aston Martin, but the DB9 is certainly not a clone of the DB4,5, or 6. It doesn't even look that much like a DB7.
How about some new ideas, folks... It is the 21st century, not the 20th century replay.

mk; Generally I agree with you but in this instance I couldn't disagree more. I think that rendering looks awesome. I don't mind retro styling though, so long as it's well done (which I think this is).
I feel that an awful lot of newer cars (notable exceptions being the Mercedes CLS and SL, the Jaguar XKR, Aston Martins and others.. those are just off the top of my head) wind up looking very similar to everything else on the road... They're all basically shapeless, formless blobs, and very boring, to my eye.

Looks like this could pass for a new incarnation of the AMC Gremlin from WAY back in the day.

Yes. Definitely some AMC styling cues going on here.

AMC Pacer was the fishbowl and this is a version of one, not that that's a good thing.

No no NO! Argh! Philistines!
This was the car that was BEING copied by '70s imitators. It's called a Jensen Interceptor, it was produced from 1966-1976, and it was one of the most desirable cars in the world in the late '60s. Chrysler V8, smooth ride, and flight-deck interior made it one of the best transcontinental cruisers in existence at the time. Chances are the '60s guitar god of your choice owned one. There was also an all-wheel-drive version called the FF that predated the Audi Quattro by nearly 20 years.
AMC Pacer... oh, the humanity!!

Oh good grief. What PJ said. But then again...
*This* car joins those ugly godforsaken lumps in copying the original. And there's the key word: "original". This new design isn't new. The original Jensen had design that set it apart (until it was copied). This new one is a brainless copy of that. It shouldn't work in today's market, but I have an inkling that it might, for all the wrong reasons.

Perfect line but not same car. lol I had Series 3 years ago it s was fun couldnt pass a gas station though and had a fuse bay a mile long. I think the sikpack was responsible coupled with my rifght foot. I loved my Jensen Healey though.
Would this new one get me going? I really would like to see design that is original instead taken so heavily from the original.
BoneHeadOtto 10:26AM (8/27/2008)
wow that is awful. Looks like a poor engineering atempt to get 50/50 weight ballance. You know what would make it look better though! A GOLD ROOF. You know it needs one!

I have never heard of this car before, but to be honest I really like the look. It's different!

I have seen some very nice original Interceptors and they can be purchased for a reasonable price. I would say this somewhat resembles the original, but they should have studied their automotive history and selected a MOPAR powerplant like the original models.

at first (5 minutes ago), I really didn't like this car, it looked awkward and that rear window was hideous... now, though, after flipping through the pics here, it's kind of grown on me. it's got a different feel and a classic look not to mention the Interior is quite handsome... Still, get rid of that god awful rear window.
