Moscow 2008: Audi RS6 sedan in the sheetmetal

Click above for a high-res gallery of the Audi RS6 sedan.
All right. Now we're torn. RS6 Avant or RS6 sedan? Both are packing the same twin-turbocharged, direct-injected 5.0-liter V10 putting out 580 hp and 479 lb.-ft. of torque. Both send power to all four wheels through a six-speed tiptronic tranny and both can be equipped with absolutely massive 420mm (front) and 356mm (rear) ceramic brakes. While it's hard to deny the practicality of the wagon, we think the sedan comes across as more elegant – in a brutally Teutonic way. The voting will commence in the comments and check the gallery below for a plenty of high-res images from the show floor.

Impressive running gear, but the exterior styling is completely underwhelming (in typical Audi fashion). I'm all for conservative handsome looks (such as BMW had before the Bangle/van Hooydonk dozer wrecked it), but all Audis save the R8 look the same to me, and they're all bland.

i think they need to move on. it's been 10 years and Audi's still have the same boring look.
what, are they trying to mimic Porsche

But you still can't keep your eyes off of it...you know why, that's because class is deeper than side vents, fender flares, and aircraft carrier wings on the back. I'm sorry to disappoint you.

I can easily keep my eyes off of it. As in: it's transparent, much like a Ford Taurus. I dislike fender flares, hood scoops, and wings, but I like good design. Rest on your laurels too long and I snooze, Audi. Move on to something more appealing.

Sweet! Looks good and I am digging the cut lines above the wheel wells.

Avant. Avant. Avant.
There's something about doing what the RS cars can do in a wagon form that just makes it that much more amazing.

yep. My thoughts exactly.

It's a great looking, super-powerful car... but i think i like how the wagon is more of a sleeper - who would put that kind of engine into a wagon!??!
I've test drove an RS4 and it was amazing, i can only imagine what one of these would be like - love the audis.

why didn't you buy it?

I think Audi has it spot on. Nothing flashy but thats the point. If you want something flashy buy a ferrari or a lambo., but if you want something good looking that will not stand out like a sore thumb its perfect. Clean lines meets a twin turbo V-10. perfect for me.

What is the deal with Audi and their penchant to equip at least every other one manufactured with an all-black interior? Nothing like using one dark color to mask all the effort put into rich surfaces and textures.

I hope this thing gets to 60 faster than the 4.5 seconds I read in a press release that was posted earlier. Otherwise all that power and AWD are for absolutely no reason... might as well buy the 3.2 A6.
The styling is not bad, but too bland for my taste. Audi really needs to stop with jelly-bean styling... it's not the 80s anymore. I can't believe that people actually like that wierd dashboard design... it always bothered me, just looks industrial in a non German kind of way.

4.5s 0-100km/h not 60mph..and as always Audi underrate their cars extrmly...
Serge 11:36AM (8/26/2008)
well 100km/h = 62mph... not a big deal. Most magazine car tests show that 99.9% of non-supercar cars are underrated by a similar margin of .2 - .4 seconds from the manufacturer.
The CTS-V factory 0-60mph is 3.9s. I just think that something is no right with this sedan. Either the power is limited in 1st gear because the drivetrain and/or body can’t handle it. Maybe even with AWD the car has wheelhop issues... I doubt that, but it’s possible. When I pay over 70k for a sport sedan I don’t want it to be half-assed, but that’s just me.

The Avant has already done 0-100kp/h in 4.2 and 1/4 mile in 12.4.
And has been beating the competition on the track. On Hockenheim it was close to a second quicker then the M5 sedan and trounced the much lighter C63 AMG Touring on Silverstone by 4 seconds.

I vote for the avant, understate to the max! I may like to remove the "RS6" badge at the rear even. The rear lights look batter on the wagon.
