Spy Video: Jaguar XF-R caught on tape

Click above to view video after the jump
The coming Jaguar XF-R has been caught in the valley of death. It was accompanied by a Jaguar XJ mule and shepherded by a fleet of Land Rovers charged with blocking the all-seeing eye of someone's Sony Handycam. Fortunately for us, they failed. The driver of this particular prototype XF-R couldn't keep his foot off the throttle, as at different points in the video you hear the growl of a big displacement V8 and the accompanying scream of a supercharger. Other than vents in the hood to let that 5-liter V8 breathe, the body modifications look to be exceptionally tame. With 500 horsepower, however, its acceleration should be quite the opposite. Follow the jump to check out the video.

Yeah I know. What was that about? It doesn't look any different from the current XJ...

That xj looked incredibly sick. I can't wait to see what they do with the new model.

I have a 1991 XJ6 and you are somewhat right. The value will depreciate, but the car runs great, and always will. The 4.0 Liter I-6 was ahead of it's time, and holds up great. Jaguars last a long time, minus the small maintenance like brakes and little stuff including A/C. It is worth maybe 3000$ in dollars, (optimistic) but it runs like a 98 BMW so it's a bargain if you're looking to buy.

Your comment was worth nothing after 1 second......

I saw this thing in Vegas. Sounded very nice. They also had a Range Rover with a naturally aspirated 5.0L Direct Injection V8 in it. They both sounded extremely nice.

I think you missed the lead story here. The XF wasn't the car they were trying to hide - they were just using it to shield the black next-generation XJ mule running behind it. That car appeared to be a current XJ body sporting the front end of the radical new large body Jag that will launch in 2010.

A car that could have been a lot, but got butchered by the overly cautious design department.

Man, I love the XF-R. I'd certainly have it over any other sedan in it's class.
