eBay Find of the Day: Frank's "Million Mile" Chevy Silverado

You've got thirty grand and you want a pickup truck, do you A) buy new, or B) hit eBay for a million-mile Silverado. Frank, who had a mild brush with celebrity when the odometer on his truck hit seven-figures recently, would like you to buy his truck. The 1991 Chevy Silverado 1500 is still on its original 350 small-block, though it's chewed up 5 trannies. Frank raves on and on about its remarkable engine and wants it to go to a collector who will appreciate it, but still go out for a ride from time to time. It is an impressive mileage total, but really, who's going to question that a small block V8 is one of the best engines ever? Maintenance has apparently been rather thorough, which is a help keeping any car alive, though we're surprised it hasn't been ravaged by the tinworm. Frank's auction ends in three days and so far hasn't moved beyond its starting bid of $29,999.99. With Employee Pricing back, however, you can get a brand new Chevy Silverado Regular Cab with a short box and zero miles for just $19,899.

The interior smells vaguely of backsweat.

Naw its the interior plastics that are starting to give off great fumes

You should buy it, having a 1991 truck with a million miles would fit into your political agenda perfectly!
Kingus 1:01PM (8/21/2008)
This guy should be your hero, vintage! Instead you ridicule him. tsk tsk

Charging MORE for a used vehicle? You guys must be getting pot from this guy, because that's definitely not my style. Get something used and cheap, drive it to the ground..... not get something used, drive it to the ground, then claim it's special and try to sell it for 2x the cost of a comparable new vehicle. That's retarded.
Kingus 1:25PM (8/21/2008)
Still figured you'd at least give him a pat on the back for not dumping his car till the 1 million mark.

Oh for sure. Props for continuing to fix it. I think I'd rather fix something more interesting/desirable than a boring truck, but whatev. Good job on keeping it on the road.

If it was Toyota backsweat you smelled, you wouldn't be complaining about it.
US backsweat has proven to be just as offensive and staining as imported backsweat, but you'll never see that in a NY Times report. The media is so biased, and the sheeple keep feeding off of it.

Five trannies? WTF? How is this an achievement?
30,000 large is being a little delusional IMO. This guy must work in GM's management... O bids good luck

Five transmissions isn't that unbelieveable, assuming that his replacement trannies were probably used. Each 'new' one had to have some mileage and un-rebuildable wear as well.

A GM vehicle (or any vehicle) going 200,000 miles per transmission? That's pretty impressive.

That doesn't sound too bad; My dad's 1997 5.7(?) Ram has over 300,000 miles on it. Same engine but it's on the third oil pump. Proper maintenance to the T; he religiously rotates the tires every oil change, swaps the air filter every two, and checks/changes the plugs the third. The best part is the truck is now in the "don't care" mode, as in "You scratched the paint? Don't care."
But that's what my dad has to do with his job requiring long distance travel constantly. He purchased a new Solstice a year and a month ago to the day and has already slapped a little over 45,000 miles on the ODO. He'll drive a vehicle till the wheels fall off, then get out of the car and bolt them back on.

A grand would be pushing it.
The body has it's share of nicks, dents, scratches.
The interior is in pretty good shape.
It would appear this would be a good field or yard truck, but that's all I'd say.
A collector item? Well maybe just the gauge cluster.
P.S. He's going to need the money for a much better toupe.
