Click above for two sets of '09 Civic Sedan brochure scans

Honda hasn't released official shots of the mildly facelifted 2009 Civic sedan yet, but it has started sending brochures to dealers. You know how this works: brochure > scanner > web > you, so here it is. Up front, the grille is reshaped to align Civic with its Honda brethren and the lower fascia gets a more aggressive three-opening treatment that lets the foglamps be pushed farther outboard. In back, the taillamps retain their shape, but the reverse light detailing is updated. Some models (from what we can see) now also get a trunklid chrome strip. Look for some new wheel designs sprinkled throughout, as well as two new trim levels -- the DX-VP (Value Package) and LX-S (Sport appearance package). Given that people are flocking to more economical cars, those additional offerings in the lineup certainly shouldn't hurt. We expect to see 4-door's front-end changes make their way onto the Civic coupe as well. We're sure scans and photos of that will appear soon enough, with official images and details from Honda sure to follow in short order. Thanks to asndragon for the tip!

For all you Chevy pushrod guys: Try getting this much power per liter without a blower, and civilian sedan streetworthy besides. You are dinosaurs. It's over. GM's finally wrung out every penny they can from this over fifty year old V8 tooling. Time to move on. Goodbye.
So, you see only what you want to see eh? You hate GM's (excellent!) pushrod V8s so much you can't see their 3.6-liter DI V6 making 304 hp in the new CTS, I guess. Oh, and by the way, it makes 273 lb-ft of torque. That's more hp/liter than Accord or TL V6s, and WAY more torque/liter.
GM can produce efficient drivetrains, such as the 3.6L V6, which has just seen the start of its HP development. The Chevy V8's at the end of its life, with only the not-so-new Northstar as its successor.

while you can't dispute the ability of honda to make a na motor that generates 120hp/l, the long-standing v8 guys will jump on you everytime. do they make as much hp/l? no
but what they do (now) is make serious contenders in the hp/lb arena. GM over a long long time has shown they can make a small block with excellent power and still provide decent mileage. the high-feature v6 is a world-class contender for output, but nissan, honda, toyota have been offering more powerful v6 engines than the general had, for several years.

now you can get pretty much any family 4 door with up to 300hp, and any small car with 200 or more. what does it matter how they do it, by 3,4,5,6,8,10,12,16 cylinders with 1,2,4,8 cams and 8-60 valves?

I would like to introduce you to Mr. Ecotec. He's the guy who everyone else wants banned from FWD drag racing because they can't compete.

and the award for troll of the day goes to...
Wow, they actually managed to make it even uglier. I can't remember the last time I've seen a Honda with an attractive front. The Accord has a face only a mother could love. The CRV has not one, but TWO ugly grilles. And don't get me started on the new Pilot. Honda's styling is in the crapper right now... and I never cared for this Civic's wedge shape, it's very "'80s concept car" to me.
Congrats Honda, you have just given birth to a brand-new....1996 Accord Sedan!!!
It was a MMC and it sells well, no surprise to not being an overhaul

They're also adding USB ports and optional bluetooth
      • 6 Years Ago
I wonder if the Civic Type R hatch will also get an update because that thing just cannot look anymore modern or 'fresh' than it does now.
I knew Honda would ruin the Civic by forcing that horrendous 5 sided grill on it for the MMC. I'm sure the next gen NSX will receive the new corporate Acura shield even though no real sports car has a grill.

What happened to Civic hatchbacks? I want one.

        1. Honda seems bent on only offering the hatchback Civic in three-door form in North America.

        2. Three door hatchbacks are inherently stupid and thusly don't sell very much.

        3. By Honda's braindead logic, this means that Civic hatchbacks don't sell. Yet the Fit sells quite well as a five-door. Go figure.

Actually, I'm being facetious: the reason Honda won't sell a five-door Civic hatch is spelled C-R-V. It'd be very hard to get people to pay thousands over the sedan's sticker for a Civic wagon, but if you jack said Civic wagon six inches into the air, people become temporarily stupid and fork over their money willingly.

Note that Honda isn't the only company that does this, so it's not at all fair to pick on them alone, but at least Toyota offers a (somewhat stunted) Corolla wagon in the Matrix and doesn't just screw it's customer base into buying RAV-4s.
        They renamed it "Fit".
Introducing the new Civic!....same as the old Civic....

      Still a good car, though.

Im not a honda fan at all, but if they were smart, they'd start offering leather seats as options on their vehicles.
i was going to get the CSX, but primarily because of leather, I ended up getting the Civic. Maybe I'm stuck in my own little world, but I haven't met anyone who likes leather (at least in Canada), so I assume the demand isn't high. It makes the seats extra cold in the winter and extra hot in the summer.
I have to agree with Joshua. Ain't no way here in the heat of Texas I want leather. I don't even want it standard in one of the packages. Unfortunately, for many cars today, including the Honda lineup, if you want a moonroof or stereo upgrade, you have to get the stupid leather package. No doubt the manufacturers are gambling that buyers will pay that extra bit more and get the package. However, for folks like me, that's a losing gamble, because I won't take leather at any price. In fact, I would pay extra for the cloth, or Alcantara, or microsuede, any of which are more comfortable than leather any day.

They already offer leather seats on the Civic's EX-L trim.
Joshua and RockStoneSteel: Just tint your windows....

To you: Almost every Honda has leather as an option, and what the heck does that have to do with a Civic facelift?
They do offer leather seats, just not on the Si.
You guys complain too much. First you criticize that Honda is so damn bland along with Acura and then Honda restyled the TL and RL to make it more aggressive and then you guys complain its ugly too.

wtf is going on? You guys complain about boring, they give you something that is aggressive and you complain it's ugly.

Man seriously the Civic is still a class leader and will remain so, and the design is still perfect imo.
Precisely my sentiments to another poster.

Sort of like complaining about honesty in politicians, pro-athletes, friends, etc., then getting your panties in a wad when one of them actually starts doing it.

The MZ3 is so much better a car for people who like to drive.
Front brake rotors: civic 10.3", MZ3 11.8" (the stripper version is still larger at 10.9")
Only the top of the line civic has rear disc brakes 10.3", the entry level MZ3 has 10.4", the up level 11"

But, the mileage is absolutely crap compared to the civic.
The Civic is only the class leader in sales.

The MZ3 is just a better car.
Kia must be tickled pink to see these pics, since that means the Forte is still way better looking than the Civic, both inside and out.
Uh, oh! The Civic is beginning to morph into the Acura TL with a progressively larger chrome grill. I hope that corporate branding doesn't poison Honda as it has devastated the Acura line up.
