Woodward 2008: Chrysler Booth Tour at 13 Mile

Click above for high-res gallery of Chrysler's booth on Woodward Ave.
The Chrysler booth at the Woodward Dream Cruise is all about two things: muscle cars and Mopar. The Pentastar filled up the massive mall parking lot at 13 mile and Woodward with dozens of classic rides from the '60s, '70s, and today. Among the best examples of Motown Metal were old-school Chrysler 300s, a brilliant orange Dodge Charger equipped with the Super Bird wing, and quite a few vintage Challengers. For some reason the Nassau concept from the 2007 Detroit Auto Show keeps creeping up at all Chrysler events, and it made it's way to Woodward, too. Chrysler also had plenty of chances for Mopar fans to kick back and have some fun, including a massive slot car track, a rock climbing wall and Rock Band. Chrysler better get their sh*t together.
The muscle cars they are turning out are simply bones thrown to people who were too young or too broke years ago to afford one back in the 70's and 80's.
Their current car lineup is suffering. The Sebring and avenger got them on the suicide watch list. The 300 and the charger are outdated and obsolete. Their MPG trails behind Ford and GM.
Ralph Giles better get back to work.

Can't redesign the whole line up and turn around a company in a year.

If they have no plans of building the Nassau AS IS within the next 50 years, I don't care about Chrysler.

I beg to differ on the Charger and 300 being outdated! I'm driving a 06 Charger R/T and I constantly get compliments, people slowing to look on highways and wows.
It's a timeless looking car in my opinion. Classic yet modern! Just like the current Mustang and new Camaro and Challenger.
I do agree though that the rest of the line is suffering. Being a Chrysler owner (Dodge) I really do see the company falling flat on their face. The minivan is done (mostly) their trucks are awful compared to an Ford F Series or Chevy.
The challenger is the only thing I'd walk in the showroom for! Well that and the Viper, but that to me is an overpriced car. I'd buy a used Ferrari or Lambo if I were going to spend that kinda of cash! Or even better, a 2010 Mustang, 2009 Camaro, 2009 Challenger and a garage to put them in. :)

The Jeep Liberty, Wrangler (w/o chrome), Rescue, JT and the Sarge should all come from the factory like that.

They should have brought the ME Four-Twelve and Firepower to the show. And the Hornet and Demon! If there's one thing Chrysler does well, it's concept cars.

Bring out the Nasau, now. What's the hold-up?

The fact that they fired the guys who worked on it at Pacifica might give us a clue. Alan Barrington did a great job on this, wonder if he's one of the few that got asked to move to Auburn Hills. Doubt anyone would want to. I know at least one of the clay modelers from C is going back to the Pacifica building working for MBZ now.

I think you will most likely see a lot of the Nassau design in the next 300 series...Hopefully. I personally think they should have made the Nassau and sold it as the new luxury flagship (in place of the Imperial).
Nice to see the AMCs were well represented. That 66 Charger with the 'Bird wing is an abomination..WTF were they thinking??

If that's an abomination what is a normal 66 Charger without the wing because that car is a vast improvement on what a 66 Charger starts out as. What an ugly car they were. The removed Chrome molding on the fender/door/quarter and the deletion of the big ugly thing on the trunk were brilliant ideas on the part of that car builder.
