Ford launches 2010 Mustang countdown site, reveal coming Nov. 19

Taking a hint from Ferrari and its California GT Countdown, and not wanting the Camaro and Challenger to get all the attention, Ford has launched its own 2010 Mustang countdown. While the new 'Stang won't hit the streets until next spring, 96 days separate us from its official unveiling at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
In the run-up to the launch, Ford has invited fans of the original Pony Car to recount related stories on its new website, the2010mustang.com. Starting August 27, the site will give visitors the opportunity to share their tales, with the most compelling story winning the writer his very own 2010 Mustang, along with a trip to LA to see the wraps come off. In the meantime, you can sign up for email updates as Ford continues to tease us for the next three months.

It's pretty sad that this is news, but Autobild revealing the new E-Class is not. How pathetic

because more people care about the 2010 mustang than the e-class...
Epyx 12:52PM (8/15/2008)
Maybe the E-Class is yet to be posted today?

You're all worked up over an E-Class? I mean the 'Stang site is nothing to get worked up over either, but unless you

Is the '10 mustang still going to have a solid rear axle?

i believe it may...but if Ford doesn't step it up a notch, then how the heck are they going to compete with the very well executed Camaro. Drop in it a 3.7 V6 and a 5.0 V8 from the start, plus a freshened interior and independent rear and front suspensions and you have a decent pony.
Epyx 12:55PM (8/15/2008)
Enough with the axle already. I bet 50% of Mustang owners dont even know what the difference is and I also would bet that 99% dont care. I dont really think it is all that big of a deal. Sales are not adversly affected by it. All the axle represents is a easy point of ridicule for those who do not like the Mustang.

I've never driven a Mustang, but I know what I want in a car. I like RWD, and I value handling and road feel over raw power. As a low cost RWD four seater, the mustang interests me, but I think I'd end up turning it down. While it's true that many current Mustang owners likely don't care too much about the solid axle, I bet Ford could find a number of fresh customers for the car if they invested money in a more advanced suspension design.

Ian - I was not really directing my comment at you but I do feel that unless people are planning on taking the car to the track the handle capability of the Mustang is more than sufficiant. The Mustang handles plenty well for what 99.99% of owners will ever do with it. All the revised suspension would do would provide one less easily ridiculed point of contension.
You even said you have never driven a Mustang so how can anyone make a handling decision without ever experiencing the car?
Persoanlly I am not a big Mustang fan. I appreciate the car but I dont have any interest in owning one. My biggest grip with the Mustang is the interior. To me an improvemnt there is a much better investment than the axle. The suspension mods would be appreciated by a few while the interior will be appreciated by all.

the racing mustangs don't seem to have a problem with the suspension setup

By my math, August 15 + 96 days = November 19. What's going on November 15?

I was under the impression the 2010 Mustang was basically a refresher of the current generation without much changing. Am I wrong? It should be nice to see something come up to compete with the growing muscle car market, because it seems like the Mustang will fall behind quickly without something new soon. I just didn't think 2010 was the something new generation.

90% new sheetmetal... new and improved interior... a variety of motor choices with several low emissions, higher fuel economy options.... new suspension... basically a new and improved car...
