Spy Shots: 2010 Mercury Milan is up next

Click above for high-res gallery of 2010 Mercury Milan spy shots
It seems like the Mercury Milan's lot in life is to follow the Ford Fusion, go wherever the Fusion goes and do whatever the Fusion does. Thus it's no surprise that when spy photographers happened upon prototypes of the 2010 Ford Fusion out being tested, the 2010 Mercury Milan was not far behind. Comparing the two sets of spy shots, the Milan appears to be making a bigger departure from its previous look than the Fusion. Its grille retains vertical slats, but the grille itself is much wider pushing the new headlights farther out towards the corners. Just like the Fusion, the Milan also gets a new front bumper, but its lower air intake and fog lamps have been incorporated into the same space rather than being separated into three distinct elements. In these spy shots we also get a clearer view of the Milan's new taillights, which, while retaining the same shape as those found on the current model, appear to have new covers with new elements inside. All the new Mercury Milan spy shots can be found in the gallery below, so get to browsing.

I like the Fusion better. The Milan's grill is what does it in. That and somehow the Fusion looks more proportional. Oh well, hope they do a good job on both!

I agree

I Agree on the spy shots.
But on the current car, the Milan wins...
Interesting that the Milan is going with vertical headlights, and the Fusion is going 4-beam horizontal headlights, opposite of current.

I'm wondering..... Why does autoblog.com call these spy shots when they're clearly getting shots by standing 10 feet from the car and walking around it for every possible angle? Isn't a spy shot something taken like the 2010 Ford Taurus? Like you're walking by something you shouldn't be and snap a picture with your camera real quick so nobody notices?
LOL... Ya know?

that toothy grille is killing me. The headlights aren't anything to write home about, either. Why did they keep the old taillights?

why exactly must we have 2 of the SAME DAMN CAR?

These aren't the same car... what are you talking about! They only have the same sides, majority of interior stuff, wheels, exhaust, drivetrain, glass, seatbelts, seats, rugs, electronics etc. But you get different rear and front facias!

Do you guys have MkZ pics coming?

Maybe they'll finally retire the old, inefficient 3.0L from the (original) Taurus and update it with Ford's new 3.5L.

Possibly, that is if the Fusion is really getting a GT version. If that's the case, then Ford would do the same with the Mercury.

Ford has already said there will be the new 2.5L I4 and an updated 3.0L V6. The new 3.0L will go up from the current 221hp to ~240hp and will get better mileage. They may put a better engine in the GT model, but I wouldn't expect it in the "normal" variants.

Why do you call it inefficient? My old 98' Sable with the Duratec netted me 28 mpg on the highway and 23 in the city, while my 03' Taurus gets 31 on the highway and 24 around town...
Are you thinking that the 3.0L in the Fusion and Milan is the Vulcan pushrod motor? Cuz, it's not.

Thats really some misleading camo...usually you can see straight to the lines...they actually did a great job of hiding the headlight shapes in plain sight.

Who knew that Cheese Puffs shadows could do such a great job.

More awkward than the new fusion, but still good. Let's hope this one has a better VOGA version.

... and the point of spending ANY money on a "plan b" variant of a Fusion is what exactly?
I must have mis-understood something, I thought the US car makers were tight for cash, and then they waste money on two suits for one body style when they could have made TWO BODY STYLES for the same cash.
Really now, there could have been a 5-door Fusion, or a retractable hard-top Fusion, but a different suit for the same 4-door?

I don't agree with the article. I think the Fusion received a more extensive front end restyle than the Milan. The shape of the Fusion's grille and headlights looks completely different on the restyled version when compared to the current version. The restyled Milan's grille and headlights look like updated versions of the ones on the current car. Of course, the camouflage might be doing a more effective job of covering the restyled Milan's changes than I think it is.

The Fusion spy shots had a ridiculously fake grille. Yeah, it was a three-bar design, but none of them fit, and they were incredibly garish. The mule in those spy shots probably was used for chassis tuning rather than cooling tests.
The Milan did get a pretty nice updated look. As far as I'm concerned, until the new Taurus comes out, the Milan is one of the sexiest four-door mid-size cars out there. (Course, the Taurus is a full-size, but who's counting?)

Silly me...I didn't scroll down far enough to see the UPDATED Fusion spy shots. Yeah, after seeing the grille on the Fusion, that wins.
