Click above for high-res gallery of the ZR1 doing burnouts

The Corvette ZR1 has some sick, nasty, evil power. Hitting the pedal will propel you to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and in the hands of a skilled professional, this blue-collar supercar can lap the 'Ring in 7:26:4. There is no question that 638 horsepower and a 3,300-lb curb weight is good for getting you somewhere in a big fat hurry, but in the right hands it can also get you nowhere fast. One particular Development Engineer is the General's number one burnout artist, and we captured video of him creating two 300-foot works of art. We love the rubber-ripping smoke storm and sound of the LS9 at full tilt, but we're not so sure this unsuspecting set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2s shares our excitement.

Follow the jump to view video of both burnouts, and click on the gallery below to see the high resolution stills.

I was very dissappointed with that, i'm not keen on the car its ugly and actually sounds horrible. Its fast there is no denying that so lets not go there but for 7litres ish of engine it isn't bassy doesn't spit or ripple, its just a honda on steroids.

      I know begin the flaming

I think you're thinking of the wrong car. This one is 6.2L.

I agree it isn't overly bassy, and it has supercharger whine, which I don't like. But it is a lot more bassy than a Honda!

Now that's the burnout they should have shot in slo-mo and put to the smashing pumpkins soundtrack.

Did anyone actually measure that out to be 300ft?
I only heard one gear shift in there. If it can shift to 4th or 5th and keep-em-smoking it's not impressive.

The Zr1 and GTr are generally awesome cars that TRUE car people can love and appreciate..anyone who dislikes either of them...Well plain out sucks!

this car reminds me of the svt cobra the 03-04 supercharged when it first came out. a lot of power in, reasonably price, and lots lots of fun. this however is competing in a different level and i am waiting to see some videos against against other cars.

      Again!
      how does one do that?
Single gear burnouts are easy. You just side step the clutch and feather the brake with your left foot... a car's brakes are always front biased, so if you feather the brake, it's enough braking power to hold it in place, but not to slow the rears sufficiently (assuming we're talking about rwd... fwd you just use the e-brake).
If you wanna be really bad-ass and go through a few gears then it takes a little footwork... you just have to let off the brake and grab the next gear real quick (power shifting... not too kind to your clutch or tranny, and if you get it wrong you could over rev the motor and at the very least bend a few valves), then get back to feathering the brakes if you want more smoke... well, that's how I do it anyway. ;)

But can it do it backwards?
Jk,Jk. that was pretty bad ass!
        The new gt-r can. jk
The point of that was? I was hoping to at least see it lapping a circuit.... Ya know, something interesting. I can do that in beater civic for christs sake, although with only one wheel ;)

Somebody saves money on new tires!

Extremely poor acceleration. All that power and the crude car can not put it down in appropriate manner....it is slower than Honda Fit. My Mustang is faster than this, pffft.

      (laugh, or at least smile)

I'm guessing that you're being sarcastic, mimicking the haters.

If not, then you're an idiot who has only just now, by clicking on this blog entry, begun to pay attention to the ZR1. Because there's no other way you'd possibly not know that this car has the fastest production sports car 'Ring time on record.

Can't put the power to the road? My ass. Ass.

Again, I think you're joking. If so, great joke. ProudJapanese -- where's he there days? -- couldn't have said it better (or is it worse?) himself.
Brent, Proudjapanese viewed this and had to take an emergency flight back to Japan where a team of Japanese engineers have gathered to reverse engineer a ZR1 to find out what they missed on the GT-R.
Unfortunately, on the way to the airport his Tundra broke a cam and missed his flight. Ahhh-So!
