VIDEO: Corvette ZR1 does epic burnouts, we have proof

Click above for high-res gallery of the ZR1 doing burnouts
The Corvette ZR1 has some sick, nasty, evil power. Hitting the pedal will propel you to 60 mph in 3.4 seconds, and in the hands of a skilled professional, this blue-collar supercar can lap the 'Ring in 7:26:4. There is no question that 638 horsepower and a 3,300-lb curb weight is good for getting you somewhere in a big fat hurry, but in the right hands it can also get you nowhere fast. One particular Development Engineer is the General's number one burnout artist, and we captured video of him creating two 300-foot works of art. We love the rubber-ripping smoke storm and sound of the LS9 at full tilt, but we're not so sure this unsuspecting set of Michelin Pilot Sport 2s shares our excitement.

That's all I want in a car - the ability to do that right there

eh?
I never really saw the point or appeal of doing a burnout
unless it's to warm the tires before a race, it just wastes threading, marks the road, and makes the driver look like a dick
Benfolio 1:34AM (8/14/2008)
Pfft, my old beat to hell '98 Crown Vic could do that.
Just didn't sound as orgasmic. :(

ha i was being sarcastic - hopefully it performs as well as it does burnouts

this car reminds me of the svt cobra the 03-04 supercharged when it first came out. a lot of power in, reasonably price, and lots lots of fun. this however is competing in a different level and i am waiting to see some videos against against other cars.

Seriously, what is the point of that? I can appreciate donuts, and say what Ferrari did during the Winter Olympics. This, however, just reinforced the stereotyping of Corvette and Corvette drivers as brute machines and operators. And no... no love for the LS9's sound at full tilt.

There is no point, that's the point. 110% un-necessary and that's why it is so friggin funny and awesome.
why not the LS2LS7? 10:47PM (8/13/2008)
What did Ferrari do at the Winter Olympics?

LS7-
The F2005 was used in the opening ceremonies to do some of the nicest sounding, loudest burnouts that are imaginable. Youtube, naturally, has it:

why not the LS2LS7? 12:47AM (8/14/2008)
That is the stupidest piece of nonsense I've seen.
Okay, maybe it's immature to do burnouts in front of the media. But at least in this case it's in front of a select bunch of auto-heads.
To fire up an F1 car to do brodies in front of 100,000 people who were there to watch the Winter Olympics is the height of stupid. I'd be embarrassed to be the commentator who had to sit there and try to make their actions sound sensible.
why not the LS2LS7? 2:18AM (8/14/2008)
Oh. My mistake. That wasn't 100,000 people, it went out live to billions.
You have to be really high on yourselves to think that the world wants to sit live through you misusing a car like that. F1 cars are amazing pieces of machinery designed to handle, stop quickly and accelerate without breaking traction, and they just show it breaking traction. Showing it doing stuff it isn't great at is stupid. They might as well show them fuelling it! Oh wait, that isn't funny, I think they did show them fuelling it for a minute before starting it.
They might as well have hauled a few of these out and made the world sit through it.

At least that device is doing what it is designed to do when it does burnouts.
LMBVette 11:17AM (8/14/2008)
Yeah dude...I do burnouts all the time in my Vette because I love spending $400+ per rear tire. Yeah...it's loads of fun!
R-Yo 11:33AM (8/14/2008)
Wow, hater much? Most people don't ever see an F1 car in their life, plus the Olympics were in Torino, Italy. So they probably figured to bring something unique to the table which they make very well. When they brought the fans they didn't look to be so unenthusiastic, so there goes your theory about them not caring.
Also he only did it once for like 20 seconds cause they knew that eventually most people would get bored, since their not auto heads. But for the 20 seconds, people would pay attention to it. I liked watching the F1 more then the ZR-1 anyways, it sounded much better
