Jaguar XFR to debut in Detroit

The Jaguar XF has been a shot of adrenaline for the perpetually struggling leaping cat, as sexy lines and ample performance are adding new customers to the brand. We love the balance of the naturally aspirated V8 and the ample bite of its supercharged sibling, but we'll always be agreeable with the prospect of more power. Spy photos have shown us that an even more vicious feline is on the horizon with a blown 5.0L V8 that cranks out north of 500 ponies.
The folks over at Auto Telegraaf are reporting that the XFR will be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show next January, which would give Jaguar a big introduction at North America's biggest auto show. We liked what we saw when the XFR made its cloaked debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed (that graphic on the side should so be an option), and we're looking forward to seeing Tata's most powerful vehicle when it hits Detroit.

I was at the Jaguar/Aston Martin test track a couple of weeks ago and one of the wrapped up test mules they had hiding around the place was unmistakably a Jaguar XF with a massive lump in the middle of its bonnet ...

I think the XF-R is going to be very cool looking. You'd think that Jag will drop that 500hp V8 into the XK as well.

I like that cat motif.
Good looking Taurus! ;)
(I've never driven a modern Jag, so all my comments are tongue-in-cheek and ill-informed)

The cat sticker looks worse than the hybrid stickers on a 'Slade.

Minus the cat sticker the rest of the car should be pretty sweet!

I went to the Detroit Auto Show in '07 to see the C-XF. I got there bright and early walked into the show room and headed directly towards the Jaguar stage to find the car wasn't even there!
Press got to see it, but not us little guys. I was pissed. I drove 9 hours to see the savior of my favorite manufacturer and it wasn't even there. Still... Detroit's auto show is way better than Philly's and I liked it more than NYC's.

agreed. Chicago auto show is best. (between Detroit and that). But, I hate giving up my license to carry ability in Illinois. :(

I might get low-ranked for this, but am I the only one that sees a Buick in that picture?

Im pretty sure the test mule I saw was for something more exotic the lump in its bonnet was very, very large. Much more prominent than that shown in the XFR spy shots.

I checked out the XF while I was at the Pittsburgh Auto-show back in April. I liked it a lot. I recommended to my g/f that she check it out. She did...loved it...and now it's in our garage.

Do you live in Nevilwood? I see one every day driving past me on my way to work. The only one I have ever seen other than the one sitting in the Galleria.

Sorry I am just NOT a fan of this car.
It's a heavuilly reworked LincolnLS/Jag S Type chassis. This means it's very competent, but heavy. And the new skin job, just leaves me cold. Where are those gorgeous design inspirators who made Jaguar so famous in years gone by? Long gone is the answer and it shows. IMHO.

THE NEW TRANS AM!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess the cat decal ate the chicken decal!!!!!!!!!!!!
Meanwhile, back to the everyday versions:
I should be seeing a lot of the XF where I live, but so far only one or two. It is really tough to keep up design, when nothing much new was put into the pot for 20 years, and the old cues were overcopied by others.
-- So I am saying, "It looks good, but it doesn't quite ring the bell." (and the leaper in silhouette on the deck lid smacks of desperation)

Yes, this is the 5.0L version which is about 80 hp more potent than the current 4.2L supercharged setup (although that engine is sweet too-- I've taken the gen 1 XKR to the speed governor). I hope the engine is as nice as the one it replaces, that blown 4.2 is great.
