APR Motorsport, the racing arm of the APR tuning company, has brought Mistress of the 'Ring Sabine Schmitz to the U.S. for two rounds of the KONI Grand Am Challenge Series. Driving a Golf GTI in the Stock Tuner class, Schmitz is replacing Randy Pobst.

Sabine's visits are for the round just completed at the Iowa Speedway, and for the August 31 race at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. The #181 Golf piloted by Schmitz and Mark White came in 25th in Iowa (out of 43), but 11th in its class (out of 26). A solid performance, now she's got three weeks to show the boys what else she's got. Then it's back to the 'Ring Taxi... and t-shirts with Shrek's donkey in a Ferrari logo. German humor, eh...

Ms. BMW driving a VW? Is the sky falling?

Boris Said drove a Porsche in the last Grand-Am Koni race (GT only). He made comments from the cockpit (during a radio interview) that he spent years making fun of people who drove Porsches (he drove BMWs) but this one seemed to work quite well for him.

It'd be interesting to see what Sabine thinks of the spat between Patrick and Duno.
They all crash, male or female. Point is it'd be interesting to get the perspective of someone who is a well respected and established woman in the sport. I can't remember who said it, but it's funny that Patrick and Duno (the former especially) complain about how they are not taken seriously when at the same time they do bikini shoots rather than focusing on their image in the sport. Through misguided self-promotion, they are in effect hindering their own progress.

Speaking of which Ms. Duno crashed out AGAIN during this weekends IRL race.

      she's a great driver.

has done something like 20,000+ laps of the Ring.

the manufactures should hire her to post their Ring Lap times.

Sabine, America, and a GTI - my three favorite things!

she'll def be successful given some time to learn the tracks. a walk in the park compared w/ the ring.

speaking of german humor, if anybody saw the itv f1 germany broadcast a few weeks back, there was a brief pre-race segment that touched on just that. heidfeld and bourdais had some funny comments, but bourdais took the cake. when asked by the itv commentator his thoughts on something about the germans completely lacking the dress sensibility of the french (or something pretentious like that), bourdais shot back w/ a "are you kidding? look at you dude!"

wish i saw the commentator's face...

How good would Sabine be, if she ran the Ring backwards?

This month should be the counter-clockwise (anti-clockwise as the germans say it) on the Ring!
