Click above to see the Gumpert Apollo on Top Gear's test track

The Gumpert Apollo may not be able to drive over a speed bump, but it sure is fast on the track. Top Gear's most recent episode included a review of the German supercar by Richard Hammond and a Power Lap on the Top Gear Test Track in the hands of the Stig. The result was quite impressive: a time of 1:17.1 that eclipsed the previous best mark of 1:17.3 set by the Ascari A10. Follow the jump to watch the two-part video.

This is a prime example of a car that doesn't have the looks to support its price tag. I don't care how fast your car can lap a track. If it looks like hell, it's not a supercar. This is why the Ariel Atom isn't a supercar. It has NO looks, thus can't even be considered a supercar. None of these cars that lap the Top Gear track are faster than the Renault F1 car that lapped it a while back. THAT car is a bare-bones go-fast machine, not any of these pretenders. TG should focus on cars that human beings who drive on public roads may actually want. Sometimes this includes supercars, which look sexy and drive real fast. Unfortunately, one lap specials like this car, which are ugly as sin but move faster than your sister, sadly fall by the wayside.

I know TG has the 'sleeping policeman' test, did this pass?

They have had faster cars that have not gone on the board because they could not clear a speedbump.

There were news right in on autoblog about a stuck Gumpert in the US , it got stuck on a speed bump , I recall the news reported it was the version with the adjustable suspension.

The Power Lap board is ruined anyways, why worry :P

But yeah, if any of you recall the three's trip to the Millau Bridge in 3 supercars, then many cars, especially those heading the board, can be disqualified for being hopeless in day-to-day situations

I can only assume that because you can adjust the ride height (with wrenches) they allowed it, but personally I don't think it should be on the board if the DBR9 wasn't allowed.

They were giving this car a hard time about it's look but I like the styling...

Agreed. I love this car. And that ending... wow. Real comedy. :D

What I want to see run around the test track in the hands of Stiggie is that Furai they had in the studio! Maybe they should make a Furai bodykit for the Gumpert :)

Supercar: Car equipped with all modern conveniences, intended to drive on public roads, capable of exceptional performance.

Ultracar: Car equipped with almost no modern conveniences, barely able to drive on public roads, capable of extraordinary performance.

      This is an ultracar.

Dieselman, if you watch the video after the lap is over, Clarkson states, that the Apollo HAS adjustable ride height, so it goes on the board. I was shocked it was faster than the Ascari. It just didn't look that fast.

I particularly loved Richard Hammond's tire smoking, fish tailing standing start in this car. What a sight that was.

This car has been out for a while its about time it got the praise it deserves! Not surprised it beat the enzo etc as it doesn't car similar luxuries but to beat the ascari, that i didn't expect.

My last point is that i like the look of this car and don't see why TG think its ugly it is sharp, aggresive appears to be straight from a GT Championship, simply beautiful.

Kudos finally to Gumpert! (yes i agree on the ridiculous un-exotic name, but this name will be more respected from now on)

can the ascari get over speed bumps?
cause knowing the top gear boys they will be bias and choose the britiish cars...so if this cant get over speed bump and the ascari doesnt koenigsegg is #1!
From what I heard Koenigsegg is still Swedish.
