Transformers mystery car revealed as Corvette Centennial Design Concept

Jalopnik's Auto Insider has gotten the scoop on the Corvette-like concept that's been floating around the set of the new Transformers flick, Revenge of the Fallen. According to their sources, the design study will debut sometime next year ahead of the Transformers sequel, but won't foretell the future of the next-generation C7 Corvette. Rather, it called the Corvette Centennial Design Concept and was developed to celebrate General Motors' 100-year celebration. The Corvette Centennial Design Concept takes cues from past 'Vettes – from the Stingray to today – and incorporates a Camaro-inspired grille, massive rear fenders and a quad-tip exhaust. All that said, the Centennial concept supposedly wont' influence future Corvettes – for better or worse.

+1 for better.
That grille/front end is hideous.

It's all good until it opens its mouth ... braces are always a turn off.

You had to point out that grille! I was in love with the car until I glanced back after your post!
It also brings up a usability issue! It would be very common to hit curbs when parking with that snout! (lower facia)

"wont' influence future Corvettes"
That's probably a good thing.

Looks like a cross between the old Caddy Cien concept and a Corvette.

Wow... that's nasty. Unless Chris Bangle had something to do with that, I'd guess one of the GM veepees let their 3rd grader pen the design. I'm all for giving the Vette a new look, but this one isn't it.
They obviously realize it's ugly, given the disclaimer that it won't influence future Corvettes.

wow with the quarterly losses that GM has been posting maybe they should stop wasting money on hideous looking junk like this that will never see the light of day

Those wheels seem so photoshoped.

The pic looks like a mock-up. The wheels are probably just a print-out pasted over generic wheels.

Looks like a "car of the future" concept from 1985. Do not build that.

That assumes GM will be in existence and selling car for its 100 year anniversary.

yet another brilliant comment from Autoblog subscribers. 100 yr anniversary is this year...

are you suggesting GM is already out of business? because this year IS it's 100 year anniversary.
obie 3:50PM (8/07/2008)
Exactly what I was going to say, alex.
Seriously, these "oh, this car will be great if GM's still around by then" posts are getting old. GM is a HUGE company--the fifth largest by revenue on the Fortune Global 500 list. They're not going to fold anytime soon.

"the Centennial concept supposedly wont' influence future Corvettes – for better or worse."
Definitely for the better. That thing is not right.

There were some sketches of concept Corvettes in a recent issue of Automobile magazine, one of which looked remarkably like this, I wonder if there's a connection.
