Volkwagen Golf VI unveiled a bit early

Volkswagen was planning to unveil the sixth generation of its popular Golf model this week, but the internet strikes again with a preview of the new people's hatch ahead of its official reveal. Information is limited so far and comes primarily from bloggers who don't speak the Queen's English, but from what we can tell the next-generation Golf will be larger than the current model. Indeed, it does appear to be a bit wider and maybe even lower than the current model. Might we even see some hints of the Scirocco in its design, as well? Our source indicates that the range of engines available with the Golf VI will include a 1.4L TSI, 1.8L TFSI and maybe even the 2.0L TFSI, while diesels will include the company's 1.9L and 2.0L TDI motors. A manual, automatic and DSG transmission will also be on the spec sheet. Contrary to some reports, VW of America has said that the new Golf will be sold in the U.S., though not until late next year. That's all we know for now, and it's admittedly basic stuff, so stay tuned this week for the official word from Volkswagen. Until then, scope out the new Golf VI in our gallery below.

One thing's for sure, the exterior doesn't look as upmarket as the current Golf MK V. Which is exactly what VW is trying to do with their current revamp of the design studio. The Scirocco is also one of the victims, initially flamboyantly styled, but gone under the knife for being too detailly chromy, they wanted VW to return to it's People's Cars roots.

I'm sure this will look great in person. The pics aren't doing it justice. Glad the tri-color taillights are back. I'm hope that VW does move the features a bit upmarket.

in the Volkswagen tradition, ofcourse the Golf VI is yet another one of the works of art only to be expected from Volkswagen AG..I see no revolting similarities of these Asian vehicals mentioned here.. Das superior Auto

Finally got rid of the guppy grill. That wasn't good for aero and made it look tippy from the front. I obviously like the front but then again I like the front of an XKE, Maser, etc. The Dodge Ram look on a small car is finally passe', as , for that matter , is the Dodge Ram itself.

I think this is what the MKV shoulda been. Nice clean, sophisticated lines without being overly round. I liked the MKV's Audi-like front more but the MKVI's rear is much, much better. No more round bubble taillights! No more black plastic bumper!
This might end up being my next commuter.

If this is the base model, theGTI version is going to look great.

"How much BIGGER does this car have to get? Are the Germans that dense? "
No. The Germans really wanted smaller car but decided if it was going to America it had to be big to fit our obese population.

for all talking crap about it being bigger , wider:
"The resulting interior dimensions remain the same, as do the track and wheelbase. The front overhang has been reduced by 20 mm (0.78 in.) -- a feat in itself considering the necessary cooling and safety performance standards."

I do not like this. I can say that my opinion of the Scirocco looking like a facelifted Golf V was more than just a little bit accurate, and this does seem to be no more than a facelift and (for the U.S. at least) a cheapening of the Golf V to call it the Mk VI. There have been reports as to how expensive the Mk V Golf is to produce, and it would make sense for VW to try and be "more competetive in the segment".
At any rate, it looks as though my Golf V (Rabbit in North American) will be my last VW. I can't imagine that the Jetta isn't still going to look like a tweaked German Corolla in the next generation (I found the Mk IV Jetta to be most attractive).
Back to the drawing board!

Maybe it's the pictures - or does it look like it was stepped on and made lower, fatter, etc.??? I don't care for the color either - could that be part of it also???
Practical is fine, ugly is okay too - but nondescript is not going to help it sell in a competitive, stylish, market segment. I guess we'll have to wait and see it the flesh. Oh yes, what about a diesel???
