Our buddy Richard Owen over at Supercars.net has revealed that the long-rumored targa-style Bugatti Veyron will officially be called the Grand Sport. We recently learned that the pop-top Bug will make its public debut at the Pebble Beach Concourse d'Elegance in a couple of weeks. What we didn't know was that Gooding & Company will be auctioning the first order slot on August 17th, right after the best-in-show trophies are handed out at Pebble Beach.
While an open-top Veyron will instantly appeal to some, the thought of removing a chunk of aerodynamically essential material from the roofline will have many others questioning their sanity. Have no fear, however, as Bugatti has developed the roof so that there will be no draft inside. Even with its top speed limited to just 217, this will be one of the fastest open top cars around. We'll get you more details as they become available, but for now, get thee to Pebble if this is the the car you've been waiting for. And bring more than $2,250,000, the expected starting price. Bugatti is planning to build just 80 of these Grand Sports.
Maybe we'll get a chance to compare it to the coupe we got to sample last year.

Man. Could you imagine going 217mph and sticking your hand up in the air? It'd probably get flung backwards and ripped off. Crazy.

Bikes can go 220+ and the riders don't get flung off. F1 cars also expose the drivers to open-cockpit speeds in excess of 200MPH.

For a bike to go 220 mph the rider has to be a second layer of paint on the gas tank.

That sounds like a really good episode of Happy Tree Friends

I wonder if they're willing to haggle on price.

I like the new hood crease but it certainly looks like thats a manually removable top. Surely Bugatti would force owners to remove their own top. And whats the square footage of open space on that thing? Of course theres no draft. Its barely a convertible.
Id still drive one though.

Im not sure what hood crease you are referring to, but if it is the only one on the hood, well I think its always been there.
The headlights seem new thought. They dont look exactly like the other Veyrons. Almost looks like there is an LED strip in it.

the owners of this thing probably don't do ANYTHING for themselves, i bet someone opens the door for them , sticks the key in, makes calls to get oil changed in whatever country they want

Andrew, I noticed the LEDs too. I'm pretty sure those are new.

Finally, now I can have my Veyron coupe be my year round beater while the targa will be perfect for those sunny days.

All 80 are probably already spoken for by Saudi trillionaires.

The raise looks much larger now. It does look like they changed the lights too. They got that new LED flair to them now.

The first thing I'd do after I bought it was send it to Qatar for an oil change.

Ok I'm dead serious about this but with the top removed the cockpit reminds me of a 914 Porsche.
Now I can love the Veyron.
