VIDEO: Journos flog the ZR-1

We've all watched the video of Mr. Mero's fantastic ride around the Nurburgring in the Corvette ZR1; not even the horrid compression that YouTube serves up could ruin the sound of a force-fed LS-series V8. Rides are nice, and we'd hop right on in for adrenaline therapy, but what we want to do is drive the Super-'Vette. 0-60 Magazine shares our thinking, so they stuck their own shoe, Thomas Lyman, behind the wheel and sent him off around Milford. It looks like it was awesome, but everybody's keeping mum until the embargo lifts on August 20th. The video does a pretty good job of speaking for itself. Putting words in our future-mouths, our first impression is likely to go something like "holy mother of pearl!" repeated several times while breathing into a paper bag.

He drives it like an amateur. I mean, I realize it has quite a bit more grunt than my C63, but come on, bring that b.tche's ass 'round at least a little.

In April of 1997 I bought a mint 1990 ZR-1 with 21k miles on it for $27k.
I figure by 2013 or so, nice first-year examples of these puppies should be down in the $45k range.
That'll be "a lot of car for the money".

Wishful thinking my friend.
I'd wish right along with you, being 22, about to start a well paying job... I could only wish this car will EVER be worth only 45k.
Maybe a wrecked one... but
You must be dreaming.

Something for you to be proud of, yet something that brings others shame... :(

Also similar to my camry. which is ok... in a camry. Not in a ZR-1 though.

Mr Lyman's skills are either being sorely pressed, or the track was pretty wet.
Or...the current reported HP of the ZR-1 has been...underestimated.
Bring on AWD.

640 hp is no playground bro.. it's not underestimated.. it was SAE certified.
aj 9:42PM (7/24/2008)
I hope you realize that GM pulls SAE tests on all their cars. they aren't afraid to submit to those tests and recieve the real numbers. How many other manufacturers have the guts to look at their real HP and Torque ratings?
So keeping that in mind, the ZR-1 is putting out that 640HP. For $100000. Now, thats as powerful as a Lambo, but way, way cheaper. So if you can sacrifice AWD, and learn how to control that tail while licking an apex; you have got one hell of a supercar.
Not that many of us will ever sit let alone drive one. So all those criticizing the car or the driver, just shut up. Youll never get to drive one, youll never own one. so all you can do is speculate and pretend that a "GTR is better" or "the Porche 911" is better. Sit in one, drive one, and pull off a 7,27 'Ring lap, and then you can bitch about the car all you want...

Man, that does look like quite a handful, but mad fun as well. Just more proof that Jim Mero is one helluva driver.

Wasn't much speed going on. And he was short shifting to boot. Personally, other than the sound of the car, I found the video quite boring.
