Saleen launches Super Shaker system for the Mustang
When we think of shaker hood scoops, our minds conjure up images of classic muscle cars with rumbling V8s. The current Mustang's retro design looks pretty darn good with a shaker installed as well, as Saleen proved with the Parnelli Jones Mustang. The only problem is that a shaker hood doesn't combine well with one of Saleen's best selling aftermarket parts, their Series VI twin-screw supercharger. Since both take up the same space, Mustang owners have to either choose between classic good looks or a boost in horsepower. Until now. Speedlab, the aftermarket arm of Saleen, has developed a new product called the Super Shaker that is the best of both worlds. Not only does it combine a shaker hood and a supercharger, but the direct injection of cold air from outside the engine bay actually improves horsepower and keeps the motor running cooler. A variety of kits are available, including full systems as well as upgrade kits for both Saleen S281 Supercharged Mustangs and even the Parnelli Jones Mustang. Follow the jump for full details on the Super Shaker in the press release from Saleen or get ordering info on Saleen's web site.

PRESS RELEASE:
Troy, Michigan (July 18, 2008) – Saleen's Aftermarket Division, SpeedLab, announced today the introduction of a new technology for air induction systems called the SuperShaker™. The patent pending SuperShaker™ embodies the classic appeal of shaker hood styling while delivering exhilarating performance via modern Supercharger technology.
By combining the proven efficiency of the Saleen series VI intercooled supercharger with that of the new and highly efficient SuperShaker™ induction system, SpeedLab has brokered the perfect marriage; bringing together Beauty AND Beast for the first time.
For decades, the two theories of air induction were separated. With this revolutionary new system, SuperShaker™ couples the best of both worlds. The "ram air" design and functionality of a true shaker hood is now mated with the forced air induction system via an intercooled, twin screw Saleen series VI supercharger. Saleen SpeedLab is the first and only manufacturer offering this highly engineered technology to the market.
"For the first time ever, consumers do not have to sacrifice muscle car styling to get more power and performance," says Michael Lingo, Vice President & General Manager of Saleen's Aftermarket Division, "the SpeedLab SuperShaker™ puts real muscle under your hood producing power that can be seen and heard".
PERFORMANCE
The SuperShaker™ induction path is much shorter and less restrictive compared to existing designs, and is a true "cold air" intake that is sealed off from the engine compartment, thus enhancing vehicle performance. The SuperShaker™ induction system sits above the hood and is isolated from the hot air in the engine compartment. This is especially beneficial in static situations such as at stop lights or take off during drag racing. Once up to speed, the shaker hood scoop rams fresh cold air into the air box where it is pressurized, allowing greater boost at higher speeds.
The ground-breaking design efforts at Saleen have resulted in a durable design that can withstand the harsh environment of everyday driving. By angling the custom air filter forward, water and debris will be deflected down to the bottom of the air box where it can be evacuated and not affect the performance of the filter. There are two molded pieces that make up and include the air box, providing a skirt that mounts to the rear of the box which protects the compartment from water, debris and environmental hazards. This unique design does not require any extraordinary mounting or securing devices, allowing the air box to utilize the maximum space available within the tight constraints. The result is a larger surface area for the air filter and compact OE style look.
"The shorter intake and minimal restriction allows for more cold air to be available to the engine immediately, resulting in less lag time and quicker throttle response, says Marc Musial, Chief Powertrain Engineer, "providing instant power that is available on demand throughout the power curve".
APPLICATIONS
The Saleen SpeedLab SuperShaker™ is engineered and designed to fit all 2005-current model Mustang GT's. The SuperShaker™ kit will increase your total power from 500 – 700HP. SpeedLab will also be offering additional SuperShaker™ upgrade components.
"We are very excited to offer this one of a kind system to the Mustang enthusiast community," says Carlos Duran, Manager of Saleen's Aftermarket Sales, "in addition to the SuperShaker™ kit; we have made this revolutionary product available to our existing Saleen Series VI Supercharger owners with the release of the ShakerLid upgrade kit. The ShakerLid kit allows all Saleen customers to enjoy the SuperShaker™ experience."

I looked at some Saleen Mustangs sitting on the Ford dealership lot one time and I was shocked by the price of these things. If I have 60k to spend on a car, I'm not going to spend it on something with a live rear axle. I'll take a Vette instead.

'Vettes are road course cars with rear truck suspensions. Mustangs are drag race cars with rear drag race suspensions.
Can we please evaluate cars based on the end results, not the tech used to get there?

Reary?
What form of racing is Saleen known for, or do you know?
One hint, it ain't drag racing.
Can we please learn what we are talking about before we comment?

Yesterday was Camaro day, because it was unveiled. Every other day is Mustang day.

At only $6950 + $1450 for installation how could you not buy one?

KeatMP,
Solid Rear Axle Mustangs finished 1-2-3 in the Grand-Am race at Barber Motorsports Park--a motorcycle track--this weekend. They beat BMW M3s, BMW Z4Ms, Porsche 997s, and Porsche 996s.

Brad, I've been using this same talking point ever since the current Mustang finished 1-2-4 in it's first race. No one cares. Just because it's an "old" technology, they think it's inherently terrible, even though most car reviewers have said that the solid rear on the Mustang is probably one of the best ever produced.
But I digress...
Brad Barnett 1:17PM (7/23/2008)
Internal Combustion is an "old" technology too. I suppose all of our cars are "relics". :-)
Christian 12:56PM (7/23/2008)
Thanks for the spoiler Brad...I was gonna watch it tape delay this Sat....lol
Could just told him FR500C have been dominating this type of racing for awhile now...The little ricers (TSX, Si) and cars like the RX-8 and 350Z: not even close.
mk 2:15PM (7/23/2008)
Just one thing...
A smooth track is not a city street, or a frost-heaved highway.
Most of us don't race prepped cars to work. Most of us drive street cars on the street.
If live axle is so GREAT, why haven't all of those other cars ADDED THEM????
I'm sure you would love commuting in a NASCAR car, too.
Get a new talking point that has some bearing on reality.
BTW, the Parnelli Jones, AAR-Gurney treatment looks good in Red. But still not worth the cash over something lighter, and less of an aerodynamic brick with a "truck suspension."
I don't care how much slower a Porsche Cayman S is than a supercharged Saleen. One is a sports car, the other is a muscle car. I am sure Saleen buyers like their cars, too. Doesn't mean everyone has to prefer them over other options.
Christian 4:38PM (7/23/2008)
"mk" you have no idea. Grand-Am/Koni Challenge cars are very similar to their street counterparts. The driveline on a FR500C is identical to a GT500, and the suspension is mostly over-the-counter Ford Racing parts. The frame is identical to a V6 mustang (apart from the roll cage) and the engine is from the old NA Cobra. Caymans (if they ran them) would not even be classed the same as the mustangs, M3s and 997s.
And btw. Koni is not anything like NASCAR.
Barricade 9:56AM (7/24/2008)
All the "live rear axle haters" are just mad because they realized their cars can't handle as well as a Cobalt SS.

If you think about it though - this on a GT is cheaper than a Saleen, GT500 and a lot of other cars with those horsepower numbers making it tempting to slap it on a GT.

However..... With a new model coming out in about 14 months, is this a smart move?
