Click above for a larger image of the Porsche Cayman S Sport.
The Cartribe crew is living up their reputation as the newest embargo breakers in the biz, with a follow up to their original story that the Porsche Cayman is getting a serious Sport injection ahead of the new model's debut next year.
The Porsche Cayman S Sport is packing 303 hp, up from 295 hp, and will come equipped with Porsche's Active Stability Management system, a 10mm suspension drop, blacked-out wheels and a two-tone paint scheme aping the 911 GT3.
Pricing is rumored to be set at £49,890 and expect more details to be revealed shortly.

Here is something I never thought I would say.
But for half the money I'd rather have the DI V6 Camaro.
And I prepace this with saying I was anti-GM for my entire adolescent and adult live and I've always driven european or japanese. But my god, there is nothing out there today that is better value for the dollar than some of the new V8 GM cars. The G8GT and even the V6 and V8 Camaro, a car I would have never even considered, are looking amazing.
Of course the interior on the Camaro is a disgrace, but I think that will improve. If they got the interior folks from the G8 involved you would have a killer car.
BMW (of which I've owned many) strike me down, but I'd rather spent half the money and have 95% of the car with some of these new GM products. And with $25K in my pocket, I could buy a lot of gas an insurance.
I love the styling of the Cayman but in the mid-50's its just poor value against the amazing domestic stuff. Sexy as hell though.

Doesn't the S in Caymen S stand for sport? If so, isn't it the Cayman Sport Sport? haha

S has always meant "super" on Porsche's.
This is the Super Sport.

I like very very very few orange cars....
...but for some reason, it works brilliantly on this car. I have no idea why, but I want to squeeze it and see if orange juice runs from the tail pipe.

I guess I'm crazy... because I really like this color. There a Lotus Elise & a Lotus Exige (BOTH in this orange shade...) in my neighborhood & they look GREAT!
I always was neutral on this Porsche model... but this color & graphics package really complements it!!!

it get what yall are saying, but i guess i just prefer something with a bit more subtlety and suave from a porsche. i.e. i absolutely love the GT3RS, i think it is amazing, but it's color choices are so far out in left field that it makes the whole thing pretty unappealing. (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/09/29/paris-motor-show-porsche-gt3-rs/) and that's only one of the shocking options.
i suppose that's my question; shouldn't the shock value come from the performance instead of the paint?

The white one is definitely the best. Green is second for me, then Orange, then Black (b/c of maintenence!). The white with black decals and wheels is by far one of the best looking 911s ever made.

An improvement, but it's unfortunately a lot more show than go. Seems to be more about the idea of a Club Sport/RS America than actually being a track-ready(ish) special model.

I've been a fan of the Cayman for a while and this is just another great addition.

Gorgeous. Want...very badly.

Hmm, shows how much I know. I thought the 'S' in Caymen S already stood for sport.

This makes the base 997 look boring.

I wonder if this will have a LSD or maybe an optional LSD unlike the Cayman S which doesn't have one and it isn't even optional ... lol.

I wonder if this will be the only color, like the similar Boxster special edition...
too bad it doesn't use the racy gaurds red, and royal blue, and lime-rind green that are available on the GT3.
It should be interesting to see how this is configured. I have the feeling it is going to be an ECU tune horsepower bump, and orange paint and several options turned standard.
What it should be:
Cayman S base, 3.4liter 6MT, LSD standard.
PASM, Sport Chrono.
Sport suspension with slight drop (this car has it)
Lightened interior. Thin carpet, no leather, less sound deadening.
GT3 alcantara seats with manual adjustment.
lightest OE wheels possible, similar to GT3's wheels.
Fixed perch, adjustable angle rear decklid spoiler, like GT2. (techArt offers this aftermarket... but this would be OE)
Standard "Big Red" brakes, optional ceramic Big Yellows.
Optional harness fitments
Optional radio and AC delete
Standard Porsche upgraded sport exhaust system (RS60 has that, this Cayman S Sport might, also)
This thing should be an honest club sport, a cayman equivalent to the 911 GT3 street model, and configurable by option list for the track through optional deletes and selections like harness fitment, fire extinquisher, and maybe even a roll hoop.
If I had true carte blanche, I would say it should get the 3.6 GT3 racing engine, as well... but Porsche would NEVER hold that gun to the 911's head.
A Porsche GT3 level car with a lighter mid engine coupe chassis, Yeah, Porsche COULD do it, but it would push 911 GT3 aside, and dominate Porsche motorsports.
Then, of course, leave the Cayman S for the street with leather and amenities, and still be a VERY nice mid engined sports car. And of course it is primed for the re-fresh with DI, PDK, and finally an optional LSD...

Seems unlike Porsche to add so little content with so much flash. Tacky move, if true.
